Perhaps the Biggest Song in the WORLD! 112 established singers and a chorus unison of 356

This is the Marathi Abhimaangeet, perhaps the biggest song in the world... Marathi is a regional language of India. India is a country with diverse cultures and languages, and politically it is a federation - states being formed on a linguistic basis. Marathi is the 15th most spoken language in the world and is the official language of the state of Maharashtra. This song came into being after a radio jockey on a local radio station in Mumbai (which happens to be the capital of Maharashtra) informed me that they don't play Marathi songs as they seem downmarket.

I was shocked by his statement. The Marathi language like all other languages of the world is beautiful and rich in culture. I thought that as a musician, I should react to this prejudicial view towards my mother tongue. So, I thought I would make the biggest song in the world with all singers who sing in Marathi.

It took me almost a year and a half to get this song recorded. Singers from all Indian languages came forward to sing in this song and the ultimate result was that the radio stations in Mumbai dropped their discriminatory policy of NOT playing Marathi songs on their stations. The song also features some internationally acclaimed Indian artists like Shankar Mahadevan, Hariharan and Suresh Wadkar.

I hope you enjoy the song. Composed by me and written by a legendary Marathi poet - Suresh Bhat, the song speaks about the beauty of the Marathi language and how Marathi resides in every flower, flows in every river, springs in every crop of Maharashtra.

THIS SONG IS NOT ONLY FOR THOSE WHOSE MOTHER TONGUE IS MARATHI; IT'S A SONG FOR ALL THOSE WHO HAVE A MOTHER TONGUE!

Translation: You must have moustache to speak Marathi LOL this is a very ambitious project, congratulations on bringing it to fruition. TBH it is maybe a little long, but i like the change of pace/instrumentation at 5'55, musically it is in the soundtrack tradition, and should the Commonwealth games ever hit Mumbai, this would be a perfect opening ceremony tune.

@ Mark - LOL! Can't apply the rule to the ladies!

Thanks... there are some other videos of the song which I shall put up in due course... one of them has 8000 school children singing this song!

Thanks for the encouragement... I hope the Indian Govt takes note of your suggestion for the commonwealth games!

This is a truly stunning achievement. Not just in the excellence of the composition and your amazing success in bringing so many wonderful people together. But even more importantly in your victory over discrimination. I salute you.
