kids getting to be ready for lessons... which weighted keyboard is best at $2k or under?
my kids are getting to be old enough to think about starting piano lessons. Which weighted keyboard would be best for this? My budget can go as high as $2k. Even if they don't show interest after awhile it still would be useful around the house in case of jams, etc.
home brew PC as follows: Windows 7 x64 bit Intel Q9550 cpu Gigabyte GA-X48-DQ6 MB Corsair 8GB DDR-2 1066 (PC2 8500) RAM RME UFX interface Sonar X1 64 bit Edirol PCR-800 controller Rapture BFD2 Jamstix3 Korg PadKontrol Guitar Rig 4 Pro mostly PSP and Voxengo VST plugs

I think it is imperative that you go to a store and play some of them. all of them feel different. having said that, my personal favorite is the Casio PX-3 Stage Piano. $800 - best value, IMO. has the best piano feel for my taste.

I borrowed a buddies Korg M50 workstation and loved it!!! 88 weighted keys. $1400-1600 depending where you look.

Check the want ads in the local paper. You might be able to pick up[ a real bargain. I have purchased an upright piano in decent shape for a couple hundred bucks.... IIRC it was about $150 for a "real piano"..... now granted, the thing weighed a ton..... (or really close to a ton ..it seemed) but it was totally playable and with a tuning..... it was a great deal. I later sold it and actually got more then I paid for it.

I've been planning to get one of these too. I liked the feel, and my piano- expert friend did too.

Casio has some decent stuff, even tho their reputation is always "low end, cheesey" stuff. but the PRIVIAs and the Stage Pianos are really very good. I especially like the feel of them and they're very lightweight, too.

I also chime in and say that I have been pricing these out as well. I have to agree with Reece on the Casio PX-3 Stage Piano. I believe they use the same weighted keyboards on their PX-330 and PX-110 as well. These are a little cheaper and have the speakers built in. The down side is they have a more limited sound selection compared to the PX-3.
