Expanded Stability - Does Pro Channel behave better?
Pro Channel is intermittent on my machine, and I am in no rush to upgrade to Expanded since I have no idea if it will correct that problem. By intermittent, I mean it sometimes does not come on with a project. This has been discussed to death on the forums and I do not want to take this thread in that direction. I just want to know if anyone else with this problem has found that Expanded behaves better? Either by eliminating this issue, or by making it very clear when this issue occurs. It's a shame that I don't see any "features" I am likely to use from Expanded (possibly the new saturation), but if $50 will put my PC bugs to rest I might consider it.
Don't fix it in the mix ... Fix it in the take! Desktop: Win 7 Pro 64 Bit , ASUS MB w/Intel Chipset, INTEL Q9300 Quad Core, 2.5 GHz, 8 GB RAM, ATI 5450 Video Laptop: Windows 7 Pro, i5, 8 Gig Ram Hardware: Presonus FP10 (Firepod), FaderPort, M-Audio Axiom 49, Mackie 1202 VLZ, POD X3 Live, Variax 600, etc... etc...

Sean, If you've seen any of my recent posts, you'll know that I can finally use X1 on my main system with pretty good stability now. This is something that was impossible prior to "Expanded" installation here. So as I've said multiple times now - something changed for the {much} better. I didn't work with X1 enough to run into the ProCh problems often mentioned on the forum, but in the 4 continuous days/nights I just finished working in X1E, on about 5 or 6 different projects (mixing, editing, and even one project started fresh) I never had one problem with ProCh. I'm on XP 32bit system if that matters.

Billy: Yes, I am aware of your problems, and your recent posts. It was actually your posts (and Yorolpal) that started to make me think this upgrade might be worthy of a few dollars Although I hate the thought of paying for any bug fixes, I'm sure I will eventually get use from the added features. I would still like to hear from anyone that had issues with Pro Channel before upgrading to expanded, to see if those intermittent problems have been fixed. EDIT: PS - Welcome back Billy!

Yeah, the PC works in a more considered manner now. Meaning, it actually works every time now.

I think it is worth every penny. Very stable and working great here. No shutting off by its self. Had that before, not now.

Thanks for the welcome-back, Sean :) Short of starting a movement like "Occupy Wall Street", I think we may just have to live with the fact that companies like Cakewalk are searching for new ways to generate revenue that may affect how the products get updated. From one point of view, I could easily say I should be tremendously upset having to pay 49 bucks to get "DAW 2.0" working on my main system. But, considering there is added value in the "Expanded" release, and understanding that the music software market is soft so vendors like Cake need the revenue to continue in business -- I am allowing myself to accept this shift without much resistance, so to speak. Frankly - I would have paid 50 bucks more for the original X1 upgrade *IF* it had worked properly from the get-go lol. But Expanded definitely adds more than just some bug fixes here. The features in Expanded give the app a much smoother flow, imho, Sean. Unfortunately users can't "demo" add-ons :( While I don't tell people how to spend their hard earned money, I would definitely say I, personally, think the Expanded addon was worth it to me - and I would have preferred it to be included free (which ain't gonna happen).

If you look back to the history of X1, esp. PC, it worked for most people most of the time. I imagine that Cake had to get the bug reports from the various users to work on the fixes. They are probably still doing that. It is a **** for paying customers to have to wait for the fixes that are already done, but if Cake isn't postively, %100 sure stability is fixed, I can't see them releasing what they have done. Imagine the outcry if it doesn't significantly improve everybody's system who is having a problem. And Billy is right, I imagine, that the "upgrade" is a way for Cake to keep the revenue streaming while the bakers work - and not just on the upgrades. The fixes will make their way into an update, I would think. And the upgrade will come out a little before the next paid version comes out. Finances aren't rocket science. Refinements and stablility will continue to stream in. But that is part of the problem with the DAW 2 idea. Some of the stablity of an 8 year old platform were lost with the GUI etc. changes. Cake has to go back and fix those, but needs to eat, too. I didn't use SONAR 1-4, but I imagine it was much the same. The kinks got worked out as we paid for new versions. Microsoft, Apple, GM all do the same thing, entice us to buy the latest version while they are fixing what should have been right in the first place. @
