Sonar X1 Expanded Odd Behavior Pro Channel Fails To Remove - Insert - Instantiate Plugins

I have attached a video of the issue I am reporting here. It is best described in the subject matter. The video clearly explains the issues. I have done clean installs with all updates etc. to both 64 bit and 32 bit versions. Both produce the same results. I am not running any other programs, i.e.; sonar mods etc. Please advise. Paul L. Try re-scanning your plug-ins. The vid's a little hard to follow, and some of you narration doesn't seem to match what's happening (like when you say you can't remove the first compressor instance, but I'm seeing it disappear as expected). But two things I am seeing that don't look right are that when you (apparently) choose the PC76 (and say "PCK7 U" ), you're actually getting the PC4K, and when you go to replace it, both compressors are shown available when you should only see the one that's not already inserted.

I can't reproduce this behavior, so even though you've re-installed, something's still not right. A re-scan may do the trick.

    Yes , I have this also .

Only with the compressor modules .

If one of the compressor modules  are present when you open PC you can  delete it .
However if you add one of them you cannot delete it or replace it .
    Must be a bug .

I will do a rescan again, but it has been done previously. To clarify, what you see happening is exactly as you explained. When I remove the compressor as an example it does not disappear (video shows this). Also, there is no change when I click on the either compressor. I can remove and bring back the original tube saturators. The new Saturator also can be instantiated and removed no problem. Paul

That's a good idea, but it will be much more helpful if you can come up with a recipe that everyone (or at least a strong minority) can reproduce.

Halleluiah - Good News. Here is an excerpt that fixed the issues above. Thanks to all the help from Keith, a Cakewalk developer who worked with me. Paul, Yes, if you had disabled 8.3 naming as an optimization you will need to: * reenable it, * restart the system * cut the dlls in the internal folder to another location temporarily (ctrl+x, ctrl+v somewhere else) * cut the dlls (ctrl+x, ctrl+v this recreates the file names) After doing this, do the dir /x again to verify the names. Then do a VST rescan which should fixup the ProChannel module entries. The setting for 8.3 names affects new file creation so existing files will still have whatever name they had (which is why we had to cut/paste to recreate the files)

    Sounds good :-)
What internal folder are you reffering to ?

Sonar X1 VST Folder. I did it for both Program Files (32x) and Program Files I actually took all Sonar related folders and reestablished an 8.3 shortcut.

Yay!  Glad to hear my code wasn't broken ;)

The support route is the preferred one to take.  I jumped the gun here since I personally worked on a lot of the UI code and it was a pesky issue since no one in the office could repro.

But I'm a developer and being part of the SONAR team our job is to code all the cool stuff coming up, address maintenance issues, figure out the seemingly unsolvable, etc.
So we can't always jump in.  But if something is sufficiently warranted, rest assured support will get our attention.

Thanks for keeping this professional.  Paul really helped cooperate with all the 'try this, try that', etc.  until we figured out what was going on.
I believe the issue of 8.3 names and VSTs came up 8 years ago or so.  There might be a post from Ron Kuper about it.  Funny how the past can repeat.

I'm curious how people are changing that setting.  fsutil or something else?  I thought the setting was per volume (at least for Win7).  For the future we'll look at making things more tolerant, but for now for all versions of SONAR, don't disable 8.3 names.

    Thanks.

    Keith
