A guitar that is always in tune?
Last night, on an internet TV show for songwriters and musicians, I had the opportunity to see this sucker in action. Very interesting idea. It's called the Ever Tune bridge ( http://evertune.com/ ) Cost about $330 USD and about $200 to have it installed. It needs to be installed by a professional since it gets routed into the guitar's body. Based on that alone... I don't know that I would want it installed on my 69SG.... maybe on a new guitar, but not a classic. Phil Gates was the guest and had it on a Strat. see the show here>> http://www.ustream.tv/recorded/17805339 watch when he played the D chord triad up the neck....and when he cranks the tuning peg multiple turns in either direction and the guitar stays dead on the note. Anybody using this?

I posted this not to long ago when the Gibson LP was topic. The LP that will soon have those little pads like autoharps...press a button and they will press the strings so one can strum a chord.

That's neat, simple but very effective by the look of it.

I could imagine this getting the thumbs up for touring guitarists, but the design itself will polarize opinion... for me, the LP 'look' is horrible, but the tele version is more in keeping with the look of the guitar. I think most guitarist would factor in the cost of a new guitar to fit it to rather than their 69 SG, or similar!

Personally, the main bridge that goes out of tune is the one with a trem... and that one doesn't appear to be in their "to do" hopper for the next couple of years. While I agree that the look for the LP version is fugly (and, for a poor guitar player like myself, asthetics are very important! ), maybe they can come up with a better look, hide most of the functional parts or create a cover...

once the strings are stretched and settled in, my Carvin, with it's Kahler tremelo, is always in tune. only temperature makes it drift.

I have a Suhr with locking tuners, Buzz Feiten, and a whammy bar and it NEVER goes out of tune. I'll have to check out this new thing... but that is a LOT of money for a bridge and installation, besides slightly out of tune is a way of life it never bothered Jimi, laff. Seriously, thanks fr the link! J

My SG, with decent strings (not 2 years old) can be tuned up and it will hold it's tuning very well. Live gigging... I'd just touch it up with my Conn before the next set started.

Speaking on "in tune"... what is the deal with pitch correction or autotune. It only came about in 1997 and unless I really have a tin ear, earlier recordings sound in tune and good. Why do people use autotune and why didn't they need it before 1997 to record in tune. It seems like some practice would do the same thing but... what do I know? Julien

Julien I believe you've answered your own question. Unless GuitarHero counts (it doesn't), many don't take the time to practice any more.

How can a musician not practice?? Oh wait... I think I have answered my own question again, it is a sad commentary. J
