Night of the Living Bass

This is a pre-production mockup of a ballad written to feature a bass player friend of mine. Ultimately, the cheesy sampled bass sounds will be replaced by real instruments and there will be solos, etc. http://www.audiorecording...ghtOfTheLivingBass.mp3 All comments appreciated. J

    Jonas,

Sounded a little Jeff Beck like in the beginning, was waiting for the solo to start.  Cool song, really like the chords progressions.    Drums and keyboard sound great, be interesting to see how the bass finishes it out.   Like it very much.  I would add some other decoration after the bass part is done such as some soft horns, maybe some marimba.   I few clave hits here and there.

If your going to leave the song basicly as it is and that be the bass line, IMO, it won't work. While I like what's going on, I think the average listener will be bored with this. You can feature the bass as the lead solo but it just can't just be the bass.

I don't know where you want to go with this. It is a great start for sure. I just think it needs more than just what's there.

    Well done though!

Notation, the original DAW. Everything else is just rote. We are who we are and no more than another. Humans, you people are crazy.

I like the idea of adding other elements. In real life it'll probably have a soprano sax solo after the statement of the melody. Adding a marimba an octave higher than the melodic bass could also be a terrific color. J

Nice shuffle-sounding beat on the drums. The tune is nice too. I agree with your comments about the sax and marimbas.
