Re: Problems with Layla3G Audio driver
Hi all I have just upgraded to Windows 7 64 bits ( Intel i7 ) using Sonar 8 64 bits, soundcard Echo Layla3G with the latest driver 8.3 using ASIO. I use buffer of 512 samples and also try 1024 samples When I open Sonar and load a couple if Vienna Instruments, initially everything seems to be fine. But after some time , I hear a burst of high frequency noise which is very annoying and this message appears Audio Driver error The following driverss do not support current audio format or are inuse by another application. Please choose whether you want to disable them or use them anyway After that the Sonar freezes I wonder whether anyone out there experiences similar porblems. I optimize the W7 according to instruciton from Echo Audio and never seems to have this problem when I was using Sonar 8 32 bits with Layla3G in XP( older driver of course) How do I fix this problem.Thank you in advance Tim

that sounds like either a driver error or a hardware failure. which driver mode are you using? IIRC the layla only has ASIO drivers and not WDM drivers, is that correct?

Hi Beagle I do not think that it is hardware failure( Layla3G) as it plays flawlessly when is play normal wave file using WMP. It does work ok with other applications like VLS VI in standalone mode WDM mode did not work when I tried instead of ASIO I downloaded the latest windows drivers 8.5 from Echo audio for Layla3G. I read on the internet that it may be the driver andn trired an older driver 7.3, but the same problem still occurs. I am wondering if I change to Sonar 8.5.3, the problem will be fixed? Tim

I tried to contact EchoAudio as I suspect the problem might come from the driver. He suggested that I tried ASIO4All I download it and install in W7. However, I couldnot open the ASIO4All control Panel and the Manual is fairly vague about this. I search the ASIO4All forum and someone suggested that I copied the ASIO4All.dll both for 32 and 64 bits to VST Plugin of the the Sonar 8 and go to Option-> Audio-> select ASIO. However, I cannot activate the ASIO4All driver nox under Sonar Option>Audio> drivers nor see any icon in Sonar nor W7 so that I can bring the control panel into view. Any help is greatly appreciated Tim

first, I do not think sonar 8.5.3 will resolve any issue. ASIO4ALL might help, but if it doesn't work in WDM mode, I'm not sure how. but we can try. when you say you couldn't open the ASIO4ALL control panel - can you be more specific? what happens when you click on the ASIO4ALL program in windows/start menu?

Audio Driver error The following driverss do not support current audio format or are inuse by another application. Make sure you have system sounds disabled, they're all nasty low bit rate files and when windows tries to play one your soundcard tries to switch sample rate / bit depth and throws Sonar out. Try to make sure nothing else is trying to address your Layla while you're using Sonar. Just a thought... Child

make sure you are using the sample bit/sample rate in both Sonar and the Echo console; use driver 8.5 as that's the only one guaranteed to work in Win 7. you can try deleting the aud.ini file in Sonar and restarting, see if that cures it.

Echo writes great drivers and indeed writes them for other companies too...my Echo Audiofire is solid as a rock at 128 samples on win 7 x64...and this comes from a TASCAM user??!! LOL!

Yes, Echo is indeed on top of their drivers, perhaps more so than many other companies out there. I have two of their long discontinued products that they are continuing to write drivers for. Regarding the issue, I just picked up a Layla 3G, and on trying to configure it in Sonar for WDM mode, I got the same message you reported above. However, when I switched to ASIO mode, the message went away. I suspect you have some lingering effects from WDM mode hanging around, whether it be in the form of an old driver, or an entry in aud.ini, or something else unknown. I would do what Rothchild and mgh suggested, along with a thorough registry cleanup and reinstall of the Echo 8.3 driver, and see if that doesn't help. It sounds to me like Sonar is trying to "slip" into WDM mode somehow, as far-fetched as that may sound.

This error usually means that you have another sound card assigned to the primary recodring outputs/inputs. Probably the default motherboard Realtek . Get into your BIOS and disable the Realtek drivers. They are probably called something else like Aztek. Then disable system sounds by selecting "no sounds". Hope this helps

Thank you for all your suggestion. I finally work it out. It is the Echo driver that is the problems. I also experience lots of clicks, pops and burst of high frequency noise, audio engine drop-put. I bought a new RME Fireface UC ( USB soundcard) and all the above problems have disappeared. The RME driver is very stable. Tim
