Having some routing problems with SampleTank 2... please HELP!
This is what I'm trying to do. I want to have just one instance of SampleTank 2 open since it has multitimbral features, and route different midi/audio tracks to its inputs/outputs. For example, I'll have 3 channels on SampleTank2 enabled: - Channel 1: Kick drum - Channel 2: Snare drum - Channel 3: Hi-hat And I'll route my tracks in the following manner: - Midi track 1: contains kick midi clip, with output set to SampleTank Channel 1 - Midi track 2: contains snare midi clip, with output set to SampleTank Channel 2 - Midi track 3: contains hi-hat midi clip, with output set to SampleTank Channel 3 - Audio track 1: input set to SampleTank Channel 1 - Audio track 2: input set to SampleTank Channel 2 - Audio track 3: input set to SampleTank Channel 3 My hope was that I could control effects, volumes, pan, etc. of each AUDIO track individually, even though I only have one instance of SampleTank open. However, when I insert an effect to, say, audio track 3 to mess with the hi-hat, nothing happens. I can use only effects on the main SampleTank audio track, which effects EVERY sampletank channel (sort of like a bus). Is there a way to control each track/channel seperately? Am I missing something?

Works here. Are your 3 audio tracks displaying activity in response to the midi? Also, you mention the 3 audio tracks, then a "main Sampletank audio track" - so you have 4 audio tracks? Perhaps you're not sending the 3 separate sets of midi data to the 3 audio tracks as all. Simon

I would bounce them to audio and add effects there. Personally i hate the sampletank drum sounds, i prefer Jamstix which has 8 output capability and i can capture those and add effects as needed.

Are we are talking about Sampletanks's internal effects, or external effects on the audio tracks? Sampletank supports both send and insert effects internally. You choose which group you want to work with via the "PART", "SEND" and "MASTER" buttons. Click on the PART button and you're looking at individual effects for the currently-selected voice. If you're talking about effects on audio tracks, outside the synth, then the problem may be with the routing within Sampletank. Under the "OUT" column you'll see which output pair each voice is being routed to. You point, click and drag your mouse up and down to change the output routing - you probably already know that but I mention it because it's not intuitive. If you don't have enough outputs to choose from, you may need to increase the number of available outputs. This is accomplished via the Preferences dialog.

I am talking about effects on audio tracks, not internal Sampletank effects. I did not know about the Out column, I just noticed it now. But how does it work? By default, all channels show "1+2" and I can change it al the way up to 31+32. For my example, I have hi-hat on Channel 3. So if I want to add external effects on the audio track for the hi-hat, what do I do? What do I set the "out" column to for channel 3 on Sampletank, and how do I do the routing on the actual audio track itself to recieve that send from Sampletank?

All of Sampletank's outputs are stereo pairs, so you'd put your kick on 1+2, snare on 3+4 and hats on 5+6. I would encourage you to explore ST's internal effects. They're pretty good. Efficient, too. My only problem with them is the tiny controls, and the need to MIDI Learn the automation parameters. But they are decent effects.

Thanks a bunch, this has been driving my crazy. And yes, I do use ST's internal effects as well. It was just in this particular case that I needed some external effects as well, i.e. the percussion strip for all these drum sounds
