Sonar Studio Vs Producer

Hi all,

I've got a very old copy of Sonar Home and I've noticed Cakewalk will let me upgrade to Sonar Studio for $99. Then I've noticed I can upgrade to Producer for $399.

I'm not a producer, I'm a hobby musician to be honest. I write and record songs and sometimes mix etc but i'm not exactly a pro. I've spoken to a few people and they said to stick to Studio because it's basic and easy and cheap etc... then others told me Studio is a "gimmick" and I should shell out for Producer... Then others tell me the only difference is in the plugins and Prochannel.

Help?

    Here's the comparison chart: http://www.cakewalk.com/Products/SONAR/X1-Studio/feature.aspx/SONAR-X1-Comparison-Chart

And the more detailed comparison chart here: http://www.cakewalk.com/products/SONAR/SONAR%20X1-Comp-Chart.pdf

View those, and you should be able to decide what best fits your needs. :)

There's a video here that outlines many of the differences.

Sonar Studio is almost identical to Producer... except for the bundled plugins.

At the $99 price it's an amazing deal.  Those folks who told you that Studio is a "gimmick" are trolls with their own agendas.  Even if they were referring to the cut down versions - Essentials or LE... there's nothing gimmicky about them.  They simply have less features, and are more suited for beginners or "light" hobbyists.

Look at the normal street price of Studio, and also check out the version comparison chart.  That should tell you everything you need to know:  Grab Studio while the price is still $99!

I've had the most stripped down version of cakewalk (Music Creator) and I've used Sonar Studio 6 and I bought Sonar X1 Producer. I have found that I can live with Studio EDITION just fine. The plugins that I have learned to use the most are the SONITUS plugins and I love them. They are included with STUDIO. As fare as cost versus value, I am tekkie enough that I love to play with the latest and greatest when I get a chance which is why I bought X1 Producer... I wanted to try all the bells and whistles. I've loved every minute of it, but since it's arrival, I've focused on work technique MORE than music just so that I can learn the full functionality. Now that I'm starting to get the gist of it, I'm progressing back to the music side. ... As far as producer, I can't say if I really like PROchannel all that much. The prochannel is redundant to several of the Plugins that I normally use.
