If you record live instruments and don't aleady have Reaper, I would suggest that you look at Reaper 4 if you are considering making a move. I've been working in that platform since X1c came out and I think R4 is pretty amazing. It's put a little excitement back into recording for me. (And it's rock solid - I never worry about crashes.)

Studio One isn't that bad either. Possibly what I'd be working with if Logic failed me. I bought Artist for $20 last fall and the upgrade to Pro for $99 this summer. I'm keeping an eyes on the upcoming upgrades. That obsession for blue which is obviously Presonus' trademark doesn't really appeal to me and some little things in it make it obvious that it's designed for PC in the first place as it doesn't always respect mac's standards, but these things are relatively minor issue. It's efficient and fast. I've demo'ed Reaper a couple of times but it just doesn't seem to click with me for whatever reason.

It's efficient and fast. I've demo'ed Reaper a couple of times but it just doesn't seem to click with me for whatever reason. It took over a year to warm up to Reaper for me. Mainly, Reaper 4 and some of the custom themes created by users. I installed it originally just as a courtesy for Toontrack users of Reaper. There wasn't but one tester for Reaper so I loaded it up and used it for testing purposes. It was after I needed a mixer program to set up a 5 way headphone monitor mix for rehearsal purposes that I discovered that Reaper would allow you to see a lot of sends at one time unlike SONAR X1's two sends. So I started using it for live rehearsal. The more I used it, the more I saw where it was superior in live instrument uses. Now I'm working in Reaper and using SONAR for a test bed. Maybe one day SONAR will catch up for me and I'll switch back.

Reaper certainly has a completely different look/feel. I couldn't get into it when I tried it, but that doesn't mean it couldn't grow on me. Mod Bod: I respect your opinion and may give it a second glance when time permits based on what you have stated here. Studio One on the other hand was like a nice pair of broken in shoes when I tried a demo recently. I was certainly spoiled by the audio engine, and also really enjoyed the mastering stage. The problem with the current version is that it is missing some key features I depend on, and the VSTi routing capabilities are really limited compared to what I have in Sonar. That said - version 2 of Studio one is around the corner, and I will certainly be taking it for a test drive when it comes out.
Don't fix it in the mix ... Fix it in the take! If you liked Studio One, but found it lacking in a few key areas, version 2 is due out within a few weeks (possibly sooner than later!). I own a license for Reaper, but Studio Two (assuming that's what they'll call it) would really have to suck before I wade into the very deep waters of Reaper's endless options pages. S1 is as stable as can be on my systems, so if they add track folders, comping and a good time-stretch algo (which, according to the rumors, are in S2), then it's a done deal for me.

Studio One is great. DAWs are not, and have never been, intuitive despite advertising but this one comes close. It's so easy to use and you could do it virtually without a manual. I do however dislike their support which stinks - on certain issues. If anyone knows the name of the head man/woman of support then let me know. They need to know that their support stinks and I want to be the one to tell them. I've tried in the past but they seem to ignore me. Ignoring me is a capital offence.

Just hearing about Studio One gives me goosebumps! I have messed around with it in DV and it was a pleasure to sit down and learn more about it. Hopefully, I will be able to use some of the instruments VST's from sonar in it, when I finally get Studio One v2

Melodybe and Studio One looks pretty Awesome together...Melodyne know a thing or two and I guess using ARA technology will keep Studio One running smooth but also capable of being powerful especially in a 64bit world. People like Teddy Riley have done you tube vids showing off Studio One and he is getting the execs to use it as the AUdio engine stands on its own compared to other DAWS dare I say that Studio One could possibly become the industry standard. You heard it here first boys and girls! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f9z3fduz2Nc

This is now out. Anyone from America know the dollar price for a straight purchase of Studio One 2 Professional. Is it $399? I know the UK is £324.31 (vat included). I may sell on my unactivated (ie all 5 activations left)Studio One 2 Professional license.

Well, well... positive news about Studio One 2.0 and Reaper on the CW-forum..? Interesting. Somehow I never considered using anything else than Sonar (8.5) at the moment. But right now I am spending some cash on various plugins and instruments to give my hobby a new direction. Maybe I also should consider a new DAW...? Funny how this topic can be found on the CW-forum... I am a MIDI-only musician and start to wonder if what DAW is THE perfect DAW for working with MIDI. It seems I have some Googeling and reading to do... ;)
Sonar 8.5 PE, Edirol FA-66, Behringer C-1. All instruments in my songs are VSTi's. Check out Soundclick
