X1 expanded install problems

OK, just purchased Expander with PC$K gate.

Run install exe for Expander, I have some errors during installatiuon and thenb at the end have a access denied message, and ends up deleting X1c from the system.!!!!!!!

Performed a system restore, re downloaded the files, update the X1c patch that came with the download (just in case it is a different version for the expander pack). Redo the install and same scenario- ultimately with X1c missing from computer.

Done ANOTHER system restore and now leaving alaone until I find out what the hell is going on.

Have contacted support but posting here in case anyone has had a similar experience.

NO, totally standard. Not interested in mods. Can't understand why a Cakewalk exe setup can go so wrong.

By "as intended", I meant to replace X1C!  It obviously shouldn't delete and not replace.

ok thanks guys  (no contact from technical support yet - They close weekends don't they (very poor)

    errors are

    1.   encoder config.exe is marked as read only  (i have the option here of clicking "retry" to remove -  I click this

    2.  vst scan.exe  is marked as read only     (click retry)

3  Install now carrys on to the end then the message ACCESS IS DENIED.

The installion closes and Sonar is wiped from computer untill I do a system restore.

I have un- marked the above as read only in settings and given admin priveledges

I have the Expanded install run as administrator as well.

This is driving me crazy, X1c updates gave me grief and is still not totally right  and now this install has gone wrong.

do you have UAC still on?  tha'ts one thing I turned off immediately after installing win7.  UAC is used to help prevent non-computer savvy monkeys from downloading viruses, IMO, and is very "big brother-ish"

if you are comfortable enough to do so, I would advise turning off UAC, uninstall, then reinstall.

I have had issues before when an install is not got admin privellidges it does not install, correct this in prperties and all is ok.
So I was surprised this did not work.

I took your advice, turned UAC off, and it installed in seconds.

I don't really understand why it was the case for me on this, so thanks for your time (and everyone elses) in solving this for me.

Very gratefull  (and UAC is now staying off)

While rummaging through the control panel, I stumbled upon a dialog box that allowed me to adjust a vertical slider so that the UAC prompt comes up as 'Never'... is that the same as turning the UAC off?

jason you probably can switch it back on.. it's just a way to make it harder for unscrupulousness people to gain access to your machine.. much like "super user" on unix / linux

The slider is what I used...never knew it existed.

Fog, I may turn it on again, take it up one notch on the slider just for a saftey net.

Yes, it is the same.  In Vista it was an on/off toggle, but in Win7 there a few degrees of UAC with "Never" being Win7's version of "Off".

With UAC turned on the user is typically locked out of certain folders and registry keys, such as the HK_LOCAL_MACHINE area. So if SONAR needs write access there during installation UAC would need to be turned off.  But as long as those keys do not read write access after installation UAC can probably be turned back on without any side-effects.

If you turm UAC on again, make sure you setup SONAR to "run as administrator," so you can prevent running into other problems such as some softsynths not loading in SONAR.

Right-click the SONAR icon on desktop, select properties, click the Advanced button on the shortcut tab, and place a check mark in the box next to "Run As Administrator." That will set SONAR up to run as Admin all the time.

    B San:

Yes, the slider set to Never Notify is UAC off.
