wierdness with X1 and US 1800??

Hi all:

Wondering if anyone has a comment on an issue I am having with my new sound card... my FW 1884 gave up the ghost a bit ago and since I had a fairly non-problematic run with it I purchased a US 1800 (mostly because of the increased input functionality). However, when I started to record the garage band the other day the inputs from the 1800 appear to be post fader, which would be a huge waste of time IMO. Anyone else use one of these and if so is this the way it is? Or is something wierd going on here between my X1 and my 1800?

Thanks,

Mike

    post fader?

    Sonar faders?

Sonar faders cannot effect the input level of a signal of any hardware.

This is strictly controlled by hardware, or maybe a software interface that controls the hardware unit if it has that.

The level of an audio input singal being recorded by sonar, again, sonar has NO control over. Whatever it is is what sonar sees.

Sonar can only control levels that are already reecorded, as other DAWS.

looking at that unit, if it is the rack mount unit I see, the gain knobs on it are what you would control the input with, and or any preamp before the unit that signal is going through.

Thanks... I just assumed different. Of course the 1884 is a control surface and the faders in Sonar work as input faders in the signal stream... and the 1800 is not. Makes sense, and I should have thought of it. I must say that the 1800 preamps are singularly unimpressive that being the case. Time to chalk it up and restart the hunt for a good replacement.

Dude, In my oh so insignificant opinion, TASCAM and soft/hardware is a waste of time and useless.

In Sonar you can adjust trim- it will affect your level.
