Studio Instruments 64bit Installation in Sonar X1 failed

I don't see any of the Studio Instruments x64 when I try to insert as plugin, but the 32bit version is obviously installed because I see all 4 instruments in the Synth-Rack. apart from that a window pops up asking me to register the product, but only when I run Sonar as standard user, it doesn't occur when I run Sonar as admin ->no problem to use theSI's. What I did wa re-install only the SI Suite -> same.
de-installed Sonar X1 and all plugins, thouroughly cleaned the registry, re-installed Sonar X1 completely - surely checked 64bit version! --> same!
According to knowledge base asking for registration happens only with 32bit version, so how can I install 64bit v.? everything should be included in the install. files, right?
any advise highly appreciated!!
cheers,
ferry

You should always run SONAR as Admin. I have since day one with Win 7.

    1) why, I can't see the point in wasting time writing in the pw every time I wanna start sonar
    2) apart from that: I don't see the 64bit version!

I don't know what the reference "pw" means but to run any program as administrator all you need to do is make the change in the progam's icon or properties to "always run as administrator".

Are you using a pirated copy of SONAR?

I had no problem with the 64bit versions of Studio Instruments loading in SONAR X1 x64.

When a version of SONAR is 1st installed, the serial number and registration code has to be entered. After that, there is, typically, no prompt for any reg code.

You might have to email Cakewalk Tech Support with this problem.

It may be I'm not understanding you because it appears English isn't your native language.

"pw" should mean password and what I wanted to emphasize is that I don't like the idea of having to write the password in the window that automatically pops up when you check "always run......"

I use a registered copy of Sonar X1 -->have been a reg. user since 1985.
What I wanted to say is that I installed Sonar as I've been used to for so many years, checked "install 64bit version", open the program for the first time, Sonar is checking my hardware, I open a file, sonar asks me for the reg. code and everything runs smoothly, except for the Studio Instruments. When I run Sonar as a standard user and want to insert a SI-plugin (whichever), a window pops up asking me to put in the reg. code but at the same time telling me that I can't because I was not logged in as admin. When I then start Sonar as admin, I can load the SI-plugins without any problem, but only the 32bit version, there ain't no 64bit version on my machine.

I have already contacted CW Tech. Support but no answer so far.
    You're right, I'm Austrian.

    Oh, I see.

When I installed X1, I setup SONAR to always "run as admin" after the installation. I always have seen SONAR x64 run the x64 version of Studio Instruments.

my main concern is that I don't even see the x64 version of the studio instruments in the synth rack, the admin issue can be solved later on. The installation procedure as usual: you just install the program, check 64bit and then the desired plugins - as we all have done a thousand times. where does the 64bit version live?

Have you tried doing a vst scan in the 64 bit version? I had to do that with Pro Channel after the first update (X1a) last year. To make sure the Studio instruments are installed go to Computer, click on your C Drive icon, the the Program Files folder ( make sure it's NOT the one with x86 after it in the folder tree). From there, go to the Cakewalk folder and then Vstplugins. You should see the Studio Instruments listed in there as SI Drum Kit, SI Bass Guitar etc. That way you'll know they installed on your system.

I don't mean to hijack the thread but I think my question is related.  I've just done a fresh install of X1 and didn't see or missed the ability to load SI & SD3 instruments to my Samples drive.  I also noticed that the Oceanway add on I got for SD3 must be moved into the default SD3 folder (C: >> Program Files >> Cakewalk >> Vstplugins >> Session Drummer 3).

    Question:
    1.  Is it possible to move the SI & SD3 instruments post install & direct X1 to them or
    2.  Will I have to uninstall and reinstall X1 or
    3.  Does X1 require SI & SD3 to install into the VSTplugin folder?

As emwhy said, Go to C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Vstplugins and see if the Studio Instrument dll files are there? Are they there? If they are, do a VST scan using SONAR X1 X64, and see if you can load those synths after that. Re-install X1 X64 if you don't see those dll files.

I've just done a fresh install of X1 and didn't see or missed the ability to load SI & SD3 instruments to my Samples drive.

I didn't see an option to install SI and SessionDrummer 3 samples to a directory of my choosing, either. I think it's auto-matic where they are installed.

There is no good reason to run X1 permanently in admin mode. SONAR has been UAC compliant for severl years now so doing this is only putting your system at risk to security vulnerabilities.

Wow, very interesting info, Noel.  It has been my habit to setup SONAR to always run as admin because some of the older synths appeared to not load unless I run SONAR as an admin.

However, since I just heard from you about it, I wont run as admin all the time, and I wont advise it anymore, either. I'm embarrassed. :(, but I happily stand corrected or better informed with good info. :)

Also, let me try turning UAC back on, now. I hope I can stand doing this. Those alert pop ups used to annoy me so much!

OK, here's what I'm experiencing. If I have UAC on, older synths, such as Pentagon I, will not load in SONAR X1 x64 unless SONAR is run as admin.

So, what I take it you mean when you say, "There is no good reason to run X1 permanently in admin mode," is that it's not worth putting your system at risk because a few synths wont load unless SONAR is run as admin. Just right-click the SONAR icon on the desktop and choose run as admin, in those cases. There's no good reason to always run X1 as admin.

OK, Noel, I get that. Thanks for the info. :)

Thanks for pointing this out Noel.  I was going to pitch my belief that applications should not be run using administrator permissions as a matter of proper security.  I rarely run X1 as an administrator.  So far, I have only found three small problems with this (one being a soft-synth).  I do run as an admin when I need these, but avoid it at all other times.

    Hi fwrend:

There actually is an option to install Session Drummer 3 sample content to a directory of your choosing. I just forgot.

When X1 is installed pay close attention and choose the Advanced installation option when that screen comes up. Then, there is an option to install the content for PerfectSpace, RXP, and Session Drummer 3 to a directory of your choosing.

Thanks Thomas - I saw your PM and responded there before I saw this.

I don't think I mind SI & SD3 residing there if they are just Cakewalk only VSTi's?  Aside from the Ocean Way sounds that came with one of the bundles, I doubt I would purchase any other sounds at this point.
