Roland TD-4KS

Hi all,
So after spending three hours setting up the free trial to finally being able to record and playback now i have this problem! when i play on my drum set all i can hear through my lap top speakers is a piano sound!! i tried changing the patch under MIDI but no luck! Please note that under the drum set brain MIDI settings i have:
1. MIDI note# for each drum pad.
2. Channel
3. ProgramChg Tx, which is set to ON.

Anyone can help me with this?
Thank you.

    Welcome to the forum!

What synth is playing the piano sound? If it's a general midi synth like  Cakewalk TTS-1 then you're input midi channel (on the synth midi or instrument track) has to be set to 10.

It will suck big time, though, compared to the built in sounds of your TD-4, so I recommend using a dedicated software drum sampler (one that doesn't do piano). Isn't Session Drummer included with the SONAR demo?

Look into drum maps andget familiar with your drums (roland) brain on how to change the channels to trigger different numbers.
So after spending three hours setting up the free trial

Thats very little of time.  It will take you way way longer to learn things like this. Sona rmade some vidoes that you should watch and the help file is a great read. The program is vadt and youll be learning things for months and maybe years

    Good luck on your venture

First, define what you're looking to achieve.

Are you trying to play Session Drummer via the Vdrum kit?
If so, do you have Session Drummer loaded in Sonar's Synth Rack?
Load Session Drummer, then add a MIDI track and make sure that MIDI track's output is routed to Session Drummer.  Once you have that done, you need to make sure the Vdrum pads are transmitting on the MIDI notes that correspond to mapped drum samples in Session Drummer (or you can use a Drum Map - which remaps MIDI notes on-the-fly).

Even though you're using software, it's analogous to using hardware.  IOW, You still have to make sure the MIDI data is routed to the desired device.  Just like if you were trying to trigger drum samples from a hardware sampler... (you'd have to make sure MIDI was routed to the hardware sampler and that you're transmitting on the right MIDI channel... with the right MIDI notes)

Spend a little more time reading/learning... and it'll make sense.

    Jim,
All i'm trying to do is to record my training and few songs i'm practising, i'm new to drumming and all this sound stuff is new to me, i'm not sure if i'm complicating things here by using Sonar! maybe it's way too advance for what i'm doing!
