Help With Envelopes - About To Tear My Hair Out!!!
I've used envelopes before with relatively few issues but I've encountered one now and it's driving me insane! I have a volume envelope on a track set at -6.5 db. There are two sections of the song where I want this particular track a little louder at about -2.5 db or so. I've inserted new nodes at the points in the song where I want to volume to increase and again nodes after the increase to go back to original volume. The problem is that whenever I "grab" the envelope to move the volume up or down to the desired levels the envelope snaps back to the original level. I've done everything from "Clear All" to deleting the envelope and starting over with no luck whatsoever. Now it won't even allow me to add nodes. I'm at wit's end here. Help!!!! David

be sure the track is not highlighted.... just click in another track. That de-selects the existing track... then click and hold the envelope section (between the nodes) and drag and release where you want. see if that works. also.... have you shut down the computer and done a reboot? Sometimes it just needs a good reboot to clear a glitch. Some part of the program stops working...(a module) and a restart fixes that. If that is not the cure.... there's another way to get it done. Split the clips where the volume needs to change.... create a new track and drag it up under the first one.... simply drag the clips out to the new track and set the proper volume in #2.....waaa laaaa.

Did you put 2 nodes at the beginning and the end? The first is to hold the volume, the 2nd is to increase it. At the end of the envelope, you need one node to hold the volume up, and the 2nd to lower it. I know you wrote "nodes", just checking.

it takes FOUR nodes to change a section. two at the beginning and two and the end of the section. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=belf_6na2CY he says "two nodes" but notice it puts 4 nodes the way he's done it. you need a start and stop for each change. a start and stop for the first change of the section, then a start and stop for the return of that section.

YW. and it does it much more cleanly than entering 4 nodes yourself.

What I still tend to do is add the nodes manually. The automatic method requires you to split the clips or drag to select the clip. I find I can surgical precision by manually entering the nodes AFTER I have zoomed in to the appropriate view where I can see, and have room to add the nodes. I find this to be the best way for me, and it's really not a big time consumer to zoom to add the nodes and then zoom out again.

Guitarhacker What I still tend to do is add the nodes manually. The automatic method requires you to split the clips or drag to select the clip. there's no requirement that you split clips in order to create nodes automatically. yes, you would have to drag the timeline to highlight an area, but splitting is not necessary at all.
