can't use VS-20 editor with GT Pro?

when I try lunch vs 20 editor in GT pro I keep getting a message saying can't read/write data then crashes or stalls I downloaded the control surface installer for cakewalk host and installed the 64 bit version and I still get the same message. I even get it in GT4 now when I push the cosm button? any ideas what's going on ALSO I did install the guitar rig 3 that came with GT Pro if that makes any difference Scott AMD A6 QUAD CORE PROCESSOR,4G RAM,VS-20 STUDIO,96 FENDER STRAT

If I remember correctly, all you need to do if you get the "Can't Read or Write Data" message when loading the VS-20 Editor is to reassign the VS-20 as your MIDI device and make sure the input and output are both set to VS-20 Effect Control - this will allow you to use the VS-20 in standalone mode and as a controller for Guitar Tracks.
 
To perform this, just click on the Setup button on the menu bar to open the MIDI Device options pane - use the drop-down arrows to select VS-20 Effect Control in both the Input and the Output fields.
