I have an older ilok (a red one) that I got with PT7...it works fine with the software that needs an ilok......I want the RC plug, I don't need the ilok2, right? I know it's a great deal, but I'm wondering what to do at this point...maybe getr it with the ilok2 as a backup?

the RC Tube does *NOT* work with older iloks.  At this time, only works with ilok_2_

I have Expanded and I just got/installed RC Tube with the ilok2.

The ilok2 is working just fine.

My ilok2 just arrived in the mail.  The package contained the little piece of hardware ... that's it.  Someone here said something about needing the latest drivers.  Drivers?  There were no instructions included and certainly no CD with software on it.  I don't mind reading instructions in order to get something working properly, but there is nothing to read.

So, Billy, did you just plug in the ilok, download the RC Tube and install and everything works from the get-go?

I have no previous experience with an ilok device.  I bought into this deal mainly because I thought I eventually would want something that required the ilok and if the RC Tube worked nicely, that was just a bonus.  But what happens when I eventually buy that ilok-enabled software?  Is there some standard installation trick that you need to know?  I bet I'm hardly the only one for whom this is their first ilok experience.

First, you should go to ilok.com and create an account.   Here's the way it all works, generally:

When you purchase a piece of software that is ilok'd, the vendor sends a "redemption code" to ilok which you can retrieve (you'll probably get an email with instructions at that time).

So you log onto ilok.com from the computer that has the ilok and it will download the latest licenses to the ilok.

It's actually quite smooth and simple, not much different than auto-updating software in general.

I just keep my ilok in my DAW and use that to get the new/updated licenses as needed; but you can plug the ilok into any system and it will work that way just fine.

So as an example with the RC Tube ... Slate sent email with the redemption code.  I went to ilok.com and clicked on "redeem", pasted the code, and then I clicked on download license  (have the ilok inserted already of course).   That's it.

I installed the plugin, then I ran my VST scan and it's done deal.

Hope that helps.

PS- yes, Bapu is right - on the ilok site you can download their 'drivers', which should be done as well.

Thanks Billy.....that certainly helps and it takes out some of uncertainty in using this device. I appreciate the explanation. :)

Yeah - I should add ... I hear from others whose ears I trust that the full VCC package is good.

So perhaps it's just this RC Tube SOLO package that is weak.   I don't know, but I don't have the full VCC to compare to.

I think I'll get their demo, though, and see.

To some (Bapsi, for instance) there is definitely an "emporer's new clothes" vibe to the VCC so your reaction is not atypical Billy, ol pal.  It is definitely subtle...unless you crank the drive...but does offer a "Elmer's Glue-All" effect on a mix that I find quite pleasing.  I particularly like the API console.  I haven't messed much with the new Tube model yet but don't expect it to be any less subtle.  But you will definitely NOT hear a dramatic difference ala something like "Magnetic" say.  But I've been around long enough to remember working on nice "desks" and the VCC gives me that vibe...or at least fools me into it;-)

Well, you, dear Ol Pal, are one of the 'ears' I trust.  And I'm re-downloading the 'full VCC' demo to give it a whirl.  I'm not sure I will end up being a buyer, but we'll see.

One thing I suspect is that the RC Tube might be a 'losss' leader product.  I noticed it was added into the VCC set very recently - just in time for this "promotion" with the iLok 2.   So perhaps the OTHER console emulations are the 'real deal', so to speak.

I'll keep ya posted on my experience with the full vcc demo.

BTW - interesting Catch-22 situation here ...

I had downloaded the full VCC demo in Sept but didn't have the iLok 2 yet so the trial license has now expired :(

I guess I"ll have to contact Slate about this but in the meanwhile I can't demo it :(

Life is tricky lol

As advertised VCC uses iLok 2 only & the RC emu is the fulfillment of the 5th console model promised for purchasing the full version starting with the beta.

This was in the latest Slate Newsletter:

Can One of Analog's Biggest Fans Praise Plugins?
[class=ecxapple-style-span] Mastering great Howie Weinberg who has taken over Slate Studios Room B, has more gold and platinum placks on his walls than you could ever imagine.  And these aren't just any placks.. we're talking Nirvana, U2, Beastie Boys, Smashing Pumpkins, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and hundreds of other huge artists.

But when you sit Howie down, he's more excited to talk about the new deep fryer that he bought for our kitchen, and how amazed the Slate employees will be with his Shrimp Tempura recipe.  "I get containers of ginger sauce from Nobu for dipping" he tells me with a grin.

After trying to get him to hear my VCC Plugin for months, I finally had his assistant install the new RC TUBE plugin into his rig a while back to see if he'd get curious enough to pull it up in a session since the "Mixbuss" version of the RC TUBE Plugin is nice when driven in a two track mastering scenario.

A week later I hear a knock on my door.. its Howie.  I recall him saying something like "I don't know what the hell that plugin is doing but I gotta tell you, it sounds amazing."  I followed him to his studio where he played for me a live session, than bypassed the RC TUBE plugin (which had about 2 or 3db of drive). "See?  It just loses the life!".

"how many tube saturaters do I need;"

What a silly question.  As many as you can afford of course.

If anyone got the RC-Tube you might want to check your inbox for a coupon to upgrade to the full VCC for $99. I might have to do it though money is kinda tight.

That's a great upgrade price & considering the ilok2 was also included for free it's a fabulous deal.

It is a good price. What's the price for us mere mortals who are tubeless and iLok2less?
