Sound interface advice needed

My setup is a PC with a M-Audio 2496 soundcard hooked up to a Behringer mixer.  I connect mics to the Behringer for input.  Drive two pairs of monitors from the output and also use the Behringer for headphone outputs.  My Behringer is dead- good riddance.  But I now I am trying to decide what to replace it with.  My options:

- get a better mixer.  However I only play alone and I need to input channels at most.
- get a USB interface such as Focusrite Saffire 6.  But my M-Audio 2496 would gather dust (does that even matter?)

Wondering which way you would lean and if there are any specific interfaces or mixers you would recommend.

how many inputs do you need?

if you don't have a problem with the 2496 (i used to use that card, good card for the money, i now use a audiophile 192, very happy with it).... maybe you focus on the mixer instead..
only, you'll be limited to (2) outputs, left and right, as input into the card.

if you need more inputs, you'll want to look at firewire and usb

again, depends on your PC setup as well..

    more info needed.

If you use input echo to monitor what you're recording, I'd suggest staying with a PCI interface if you can. They tend ot have lower latency figures than USB.

On the other hand, my UA-101 does sound better than my previous Delta44....

If you're looking for a mixer at without spending a fortune and don't need many inputs, I'd suggest something like a Soundcraft Notepad or better, (though for more money) one from the Mackie VLZ or Onyx series. Either would be a huge improvement on Behringer.

I had the same setup as yours - a behringer mixer with 2496. After testing a few interfacs, I settled for SaffirePro 24. The latency also reduced drastically (from 25ms to 5 ms) and removed the clutter on my desk. I am extremely happy with the setup.

The Roland Capture series has great drivers with very low latency.

I get 24/44.1 at 1.1ms and 48 samples. I could get 24/96 at 1.0ms I did not chech the samples at that rate. A very good AI.

Notation, the original DAW. Everything else is just rote. We are who we are and no more than another. Humans, you people are crazy.
