Recollection
Recollection i'm in the middle of remixes and mastering for a new album i'm putting out soon.... and need a break from it. so, i broke this one out. a bunch of guitar parts all over this one, i'm re-working the drum kit, and experimenting with the mix of guitar mics: on the melody/solo guitars, i used combinations of DI (Palmer pdi-09) and room mics (ADK Hamburg), and blended them in a half dozen different ways, to experiment with positioning guitar parts in the stereo field using the room mic as a hard pan (mostely) and moving the panning of the DI part to create some 3d effects. if you listen to this in the cans, it is easier to hear the effect. would love to know if that effect is translating........ http://www.lightningmp3.c...LECT-VER3-10-28-10.mp3

Hi BB, nice tune and paying, listening to this on headphones I find the di a bit to "direct" for the distorted lead and the room mikes make it sound very "hollow", cleaner parts sound very nice though. Rik

morenoise, thanks for checking it out. remixed, last night... found a great plate reverb to use, to warm up the direct parts, that makes it sit so much nicer. i moved a great deal of the panning around, that REALLY effects the way the room mic interacts with the location of the sound. brought the bass up, as well as re-eq'ed it a bit, to bring out 400 and 800 hz, that, against the L2 on the bass buss, really worked. changed the snare sound. like it much better now.... easy to do, using Superior Drummer 2.3 i've been building about 5 custom kits inside superior, and i'm starting to whittle that down to 3. the new kit sound i have in the mix now, uses the updated kit. still havn't messed with the "X-drums" yet, i think that's the most powerful thing that SD offers...... i'll get to that next. i want to approximate the sound of the kit that Rundgren used on his "TODD" album....... the leslie guitar, is using a Fulltone MiniDejavibe. it's a great pedal. i'll post an updated mix, if there's enough interest.

thanks janet! i used my more recently-found 1977 ibanez artist on this one... all the guitars were done using just the artist.

Loving this! Like notnat said, kinda has that Zappa feel with a SRV ending. Nice work.

I knew a player who had one of those artist guitars.... it was pretty sweet. I'll have a listen later on the cans.... this sounds good on the speakers but the stereo field is a bit harder to place.... Nice playing all the way around. All that time in the woodshed was well spent. As always, an impressive display of shill on the fretboard. But the question still remains.... can you play the Am note? Apparently Bapu has.... have you?

notnat thanks man. i wouldn't say zappa was a direct influence, but i listened to him a lot back in the day. guitarpima appreciate the listen.... any opinions on the questions i asked? be great to get a little feedback on that specific thing..... since i'm experimenting and all...... bretB thanks for listening. zappa again, huh? i might have to break out the ole zappa stuff tonight and give a fresh listen..... scotty thanks jammer guitar hacker yes, in the 'house speakers', it's not as apparent, if at all. and i AM trying to ride the fence of having it translate thru normal monitors, but also have something special going on in the headphones....... i played the infamous Am note at 1:311 heheh tonydean ah, theres zappa again!! LOL i'm gonna go grow my soul patch back, and get a SG thanks for listening!
