group controls in effect for envelope

Hi I am having trouble applying an envelope for my sonitus equalizer in the fx bin of a track. I go to the automation menu and find the plugin but it gives me every single control from the effect.... so for example I have filters, q, ect, instead of grouping everything as one. Basically I just want to have an envelope that controls the amount of the whole effect. Even an on/off envelope would do. I think this can be done if I make the effect a bus but I'd like to be able to use it on effects in the fx bin. any help would be great thanks
