How To Connect New Desk
Hi, I just got my new Allen & Heath Zed 12 FX desk today, can get a sound through the desk, coming out of my monitors, but can't seem to get it to configure through X1, in the edit>preferences>Audio>devices there are no input or output drivers showing, what am I doing wrong ? Thanks John

did you install the drivers for the zed USB? are you in ASIO driver mode? or WDM? if WDM, did you run the wave profiler after installing the ZED USB drivers?

Hi Beagle, Thanks for getting back to me, according to the A & H handbook there was no drivers to install, I am in ASIO driver mode. Thanks John

There must be a driver, even if it is a native Windows driver. Without a driver X1 won't see it at all. Does it show in the Windows Device Manager->Sound,video & game controllers. It may just show as something like "USB Audio device"

Please read page 26 of the owners manual.. Go here click on documents tab and look at the manual at the bottom of the page http://www.allen-heath.com/uk/Products/pages/ProductDetails.aspx?catId=ZEDSeries&ProductId=ZED12FX&SubCatId= From the manual: USB Audio Interface: The ZED is equipped with a stereo bi-directional USB 1.1 compliant audio CODEC. It is fully compliant with USB 2 ports and uses standard Windows and MAC Core Audio Drivers. In other words, plug it in and your computer will find it and be able to transfer audio to and from the ZED USB device. You will need some form of audio software running on your computer to be able to record and play back what you record, but on a basic level, you can use your computers media player to play straight to the ZED device...... Read the MANUAL

Hi, Thanks everyone for getting back to me,I just could not figure it out, I did read the manual !! but then thought why not try WDM/KS and that worked, and yes FBB it came up showing USB Audio Codec. I've never used anything else but ASIO drivers before so this is new to me,again thanks everyone !!!! What is the difference between ASIO and WDM/KS ? John

well asio specifically needs a driver for whatever unit it , made by the maker... wdm is , well for want of a better word more generic. it's probably using the generic windows device driver if it hasn't got asio.. I answered a question on this over a year ago after looking for an asio driver, pretty sure there aren't any for it. rule of thumb (drive..*cough*) with USB.. always install the latest drivers off the web before plugging in the unit.
