Changing recording bit depth...does it affect previously recorded material?
Hi everyone,
Kind of a basic question, but, if one records at 16/44.1, and then later changes to 24/44.1, will everything that is already recorded be at 24 bit depth? Or if a file is mixed down to 24 bit even though it contains 16 bit files, will it all be 24?
I ask this because the Sonar X1 manual says that the recording bit depth may be changed at any time.
I am aware that one is stuck with whatever sample rate one begins the project with. But I wasn't sure about the audio depth. I recorded most of my project in 16 before realizing I should have switched to 24. I'm wondering if switching to 24 will fix all of it or if I am stuck with 16.
I am guessing I am stuck with 16. It seems to me that I would need to record at 24 bit depth to truly have 24 bit depth files.
Thanks.
Aaron
