A good feature... possibly
Firewalling 32bit VSTs when running in 64bit.
I noticed this when reading about Reaper and I have not noticed this:
Native VST plug-in bridging and firewalling allows you to run REAPER x64 with nearly seamless integration of Win32 plug-ins. Or, on any Windows system, firewall VST plug-ins in their own process space to maximize RAM utilization and protect against plug-in crashes bringing down the whole project. A firewalled Win32 VST plug-in can be configured to use up to 3GB of RAM all for itself, without sharing memory space with REAPER or any other plug-in, on any Windows system.
I searched the X1 manual and don't see anything like it. Perhaps something like it would stop crashes caused by using 32bit plugins in 64bit X1...??? Anyway, I thought it was interesting. If a 60 dollar host can manage it, well I think a 400 dollar host might be able to adapt it easily. I may get Reaper because it is so inexpensive but I don't have any plans to jump ship. I am determined to become proficient in X1 and am convinced that the rebuilding of Sonar in X1 is a new foundation where great things are going to be built... maybe this will be one of them.
