Little Miss Innocence (Acoustic)

I posted my track Little Miss Innocence on these forums many moons ago - I must have been 15 when I wrote and recorded the original version. Now I'm 19 and re-visited the song after experiencing a break up again, and weirdly, it just felt right to re-record this just for fun. Additionally some local venues wanted to hear what I would sound like if my music was just me and a friend playing acoustic guitars instead of the usual full backing band set up so this'll be useful for that also, I guess.

Recorded over about 4 hours yesterday, just 2 acoustics hard left and right, Mini Grand from Pro Tools doing the piano duties and a lead guitar as well as the lead vocals. I hope you click the download button to hear it in a better quality, Soundcloud's streaming service just murders the fidelity of the acoustic guitars.

Hope you like it :)

Mike

Nice tune.  Clean and well recorded.

The vox sounds just a tad distorted. aside from that.... not a bad mix, and not a bad song either.

You gonna add drums and bass?  I thought I could hear a light bass in there....

Hey Mike nice song and production.  I agree with Herb that some bass and drums and maybe a tamborine would sound pretty nice entering a little ways into the song.

    Great job

Mike, This is a great song and a very nicely sung version. Love the acoustic guitar sound and the mix was perfect. Great work. Blessings, John

Nice song, performances and general production. I enjoyed that very much. I think that the overall tonality and depth of the song would improve if you backed off the limiting. It's coming off as too mono-dynamic, and I know that's not how it was actually performed. The approach that you are currently using would be very effective if the track were to eventually morph into a loud electric rock song with drums, because that would bring the acoustic part up to match the electric... As it is now, it's a little tiring to the ear. BTW, thanks for the tip to actually download the track. I'm surprised as to how bad SoundCloud's streaming sounds. Yeesh.

Yeah, I definitely noticed how awful the acoustics especially sounded over Soundcloud vs the actual MP3 (and even then, MP3 sounds worse than WAV, but nowhere near the quality degradation from MP3 320kbps to Soundcloud).

In regards to mastering, I didn't master the track and this volume is what my label wanted. Sucks :P

love when you post songs mike, cos they are damn good, and this no exception!

that guitar sound is perfect, love the melody, vocals good (sound a little autotuney)

A touch of harmony would help bring this out in places I think.

You record to a click track?

The guitar solo needed more punch and presence I reckon.

    Awesome.

(*light string at end too I reckon)

This could be a tv theme song. Great song, vox, etc. Some drums kicking in at 1:45 would be nice. Oh well, I'm sure you'll add to this anyway so I'll shut up now.

    Mike,

Good song, very contemporary.  Good vocal performance.    You could add some vocal harmonies and drums and call it done.

    Regards
