(SOLVED) Help, Sonar bugged out and now will not play.

I was making some tweaks from the console view while the project was playing (Sonar doesn't like that very much) and all of the sudden, things got buggy. I lost a bit of work by closing the project without saving, and after reopening X1, Sonar will not play from either the control surface (VStudio 100) or the space bar, though I can fastforward and rewind and jump to markers with the VS100 (it is listed in Pref>Control Surfaces). Any suggestions? (double-space) This had to happen right when the tune was starting to sound good...

    Confirm that the audio engine is running ?
     
     
    I see this behavior too sometimes. Sonar will get wonky after a few hours and dozens of edits. Close it. Shut down the system and reboot. At the extreme end of wonky,  Sonar will just go bye bye. No error messages . No kiss my butt. Zilch. You're just looking at the desktop.

    I just shut the whole system down (had restarted prior to that), still the same behavior. BTW, after the previous restart, i got the pop-up window saying that the Master buss was assigned to a silent output. I checked the Mstr buss and it's output was assigned to "None." I opened the dropdown arrow and VS100 was not even listed. I clicked around and got that straightened out, but who knows what else is going on... apparently some stuff got disconnected under the hood.

    I'm not sure, check/update the drivers and/or Cakewalk support.
    Also you are not really telling us much (e.g. see my signature).

    Sell by date at 9000 posts. Do not feed.
    @48/24 & 128 buffers latency is 367 with offset of 38.

    Sorry! Couldn't resist. I'm breaking my own rule by responding cause I don't have an answer. In fact, I have the same problem.
     
    Every version of Sonar has it's own special set of bugs and querks for which there is no explaination or fix for. Mine does the same thing as yours. Another thing it does is freeze up cold dead in the middle of a project. About 15 mins. in everything stops and all that work down the drain. Ctrl-Shft-Delete to shut it down. Reopen same song only to have it freeze up again and again and again. I think some projects develop a bug and become doomed for life.
     
    Best to start a new project from scratch sometimes.

    At which point, I'd probably try something like uninstalling and re-installing the drivers, re-start the computer and then run Sonar's wave profiler. 

    I have no rational explanation but this is the type of things I've become accustomed to w/ Sonar and PCs.

    Just sayin'... where there's Cake there's bugs. If it's not responding to external PLAY commands then there's a communication issue. If no one here has an answer for this you might contact Cakewalk directly. The worse case may be to wipe Sonar clean including the registry files, defrag the drive and reinstall everything.

    Rain, uninstalled/reinstalled the drivers. Still no playback. According to Sonar's documentation, it is not necessary to run the wave profiler for ASIO drivers, which is what the VS100 uses.

    are you also power-cycling the vs100 when you reboot/restart? can you see/use the vs100 in another host?

    Yes, i've shut everything down and turned it all back on. I haven't tried VS100 in another host. I have Studio One from the $20.11 promotion, but i don't think I ever assigned the VS100 to it. I'm assuming that since the space bar will not start Sonar either, that the problem is not the VS100. SONAR STILL D.O.A.

    Make sure your midi preference is set to (trigger and freeweel) and not waiting for an external clock

    SOLVED: John at Cake Support resolved the problem by Pref>Audio>Driver Settings - Playback Timing Master.... the crash knocked this to "None." I reset it back to "VS100 OUT 1-2." Everything seems to be working normally again. THANKS TO ALL WHO HELPED. Rock-on!
