In lieu of The Sunday Report...

I'm sure most all of you have had a Sonar session like the one I had yesterday.  Where even if Sonar was running hot straight and normal and stable as a rock...you (Me) still just couldn't seem to make anything happen like you wanted and everything either took waaaay longer than it should or didn't come out at all.  In short, userious suckereenous.  That was me yesterday.  It took me two hours to get down drums and bass in what should've taken about 20 minutes.  Admittedly this was a deceptively tricky rhythm part but still.  But I do have some X1E anomalies to report so all was not lost.

First, I still am getting my record "lag" on clicking so I guess I'll have to revert back to my previous Focusrite Pro24DSP drivers as I've been told that is the cause of this particular ailment.  Second, I'm starting to get more VSTs that won't load or load a blank GUI (mostly WAVES stuff).  Usually a shutdown and reboot of X1 does the trick.  Third, and a very frustrating new annoyance, was that all of a sudden no matter what midi track I was working on it would also trigger my Trilian bass track as well.  I double and triple checked all my midi routing sections for each track and all was as it should be.  I tried different routings.  Still triggering.  I even shut X1 down.  Restarted.  Loaded two different projects in and tried them.  Totally normal.  Then loaded the troublesome project back and the triggering was still there.  Kept changing midi assignments and/or hitting the midi reset button on the control bar until...heyoh....it stopped.  I then immediately saved, closed, shut X1 down and then restarted and reloaded.  Everything back to square one.  About 30 minutes later.  Fourth...and this may be something I'm doing wrong, I don't know...And this is a problem I've had with several iterations of X1...If I "turn off" and effect in a tracks FX bin by clicking on the blue on/off switch...that track stops playing back.  When it happens it seems to be any random effect in any random track.  Is this normal??  I know I've bypassed many an effect before to hear how the track will sound without it.  This happens all the time.  Let me know if I'm just a dimbulb and am doing something wrong will ya??

On the good side tho I'll relate a positive story that also shows how big of a lazy-ass dumbutt I am.  Somebody on the Software forum has been touting a super sale of instructional videos by Groove3.  I ordinarily don't even bother with such stuff but the prices were pretty good so I thought I'd at least take a look.  The videos seemed well produced and I actually learn best that way so I bought one on Kontakt.  Long story short within 5 minutes of just perusing through the various video chapters I learned about 5 new things I should've already known about Kontakt.  I went back and got one on Superior Drummer 2 (which I use but don't know jack about all it's features) and Melodyne (which I THOUGHT I knew pretty well...not).  Same thing.  DOH!!!  Learning is soooo great!  It reminded me of me and The Bear's first house.  It was an old home built in the 40s and the back door had about an inch of clearence on the bottom.  In the winter the cold air would come whistling underneath it so I put a big rolled up towel along the bottom.  But, of course, everytime one of us would go out or in we'd have to re-apply the towel.  No telling how much extra we were paying in utility bills.  This went on for about three years.  Then one very cold winter day when I happened to be at the Hardware Store I bought some weather stripping and a door sash.  I went home and installed it.  Took about 15 minutes.  Viola.  No more cold air under the door.  No more high utility bills.  No more rolled up towel.  And it only took THREE YEARS of inconvenience before I fixed it.  In 15 minutes.  I may have to buy more of those dern videos:-)

That was really helpful - when can we expect more home maintenance tips? I have a leaky faucet that needs fixing.

I dunno, Ol Pal, the kinds of problems you report today seem very 'audio driver' related to me.

    Just saying ... ;)

But it's also possible you had some corruption going on.   There have been times I, like you, start some project and things just seem wacky for no "apparent" reason.   Over years I've learned that sometimes there can be memory corruption (maybe due to memory leaks, etc) that can infect a project (like a document) and the best thing is to start another 'fresh' one and import (as best one can) from the might-be-corrupt one.

I've always found it rather wet.   YMMV.

Good stories Olpal.  Not being all that strong in the audio tech department I'll defer to others and not attempt any sort of advice other than to offer my deepest sympathies and volunteer that today my computer is acting well, slow.  I activate things and it seems to want to think. Since I respond similarly on certain days and when left alone for a period of time, recover, I  gave my computer the same consideration.
Your door story was great and it reminded me of a time many years ago.  I was hanging around my buddies house when they were getting new carpet.  Wall to wall!!.  This was so long ago that it was a big deal, as most homes had those ol tile squares that everyone ripped out.. that are back in style again.  Well the installers did their job and left and us kids all took our shoes off and slid around on it experiencing the new sensation they later named 'carpet burn'. Well it wasn't long before Mrs Oliver noticed that one of the doors wouldn't open.  Mr. O adroitly assessed  the problem to be the new fluffy carpet. It took him awhile but he was able to assure his wife that he could easily solve the problem and saw no need to call the experts back out. So he handily, though he really wasn't handy at all, popped the pins outa the hinges and we all carried it outside where he estimated that he needed to take about an inch and a half off that sucker and she'd swing open real good.  He carefully marked his line, sawed it off and we all helped him carry it back in where he again handily situated it in the hinges and popped the pins in.  "Alrigiiiiht", us nosey kids said, until everyone including us nosey kids noticed that Mr. O had taken that inch and a half off the top of that door.  We were too young to laugh at things adults did, so there was just a real long silence, well, that is until Mrs. O sorta stole the moment. Oh the humanity..
No need to pick on Mr. O cause I've surely done dumber things around the house, heck pretty much everywhere.. Later on I heard the ol 'saw,' measure twice, cut once and though it has proven helpful  I've still measured twice and cut it wrong...But what I did learn that day and never forgot was that a rug burn takes a strangely long time to heal don't it..
