Matrix vs Ableton Session

I am beginning to learn Sonar X1 Expanded after having spent nearly all my time in Ableton Live the last couple of years.... Ableton, because of its session view, especially being able to drag an audio loop into Live and have it automatically sync to the project tempo.  This capability of Ableton is near flawless for me.

Is it possible to drag audio clips from the browser to the Matrix view and have them automatically sync to the project tempo.  I tried this with "import all audio as groove clips" in the Matrix view options, and it didn't work (so far, anyway).  I can't find any way of applying audio snap except by dropping it into an audio track and using Audio Snap.  Even then, the tempo won't change smoothly as in Live - even with groove clips, I have to stop the transport, change project tempo, and then start again..... even if I drag the (newly created) groove clip back into the matrix......

Is there something I'm missing, or should I go back to Ableton Live?.....:-)

FIrst I must say that it's like a night and day difference between Ableton's abilities to handle loops and Sonar's Matrix View.   The Matrix View was very disappointing to me (though there are those who like it, of course).  I just find it extremely adolescent as a tool (as compared to Live's session view).

So yes- you might miss Live after awhile if that's what you're thinking you can do in Sonar with the same ease and functionality.

However, it still should work as advertised.  So what kind of files are you dragging into it -- rex? wav? acidized?

And when you say it doesn't work - what exactly does that mean?  What does happen exactly?

ba_midi: I am using plain (.wav) audio loops I created in Live at 100 bpm. If my project is set at 100 bpm, they play back fine. If I set the midi option to "import all audio files as groove clips", it plays back very slowly and with distortion. If I set the project tempo to 120 (and set the loop start/end appropriately) the clip is not synced to the loop. I can, of course, import the audio file to a track first, create a groove clip, set the import bpm (provided I know it), and the file will play back at project tempo, but I can't change tempo when playing back live.... So it looks like Sonar is not quite ready for prime time in the live playback (DJ) mode. But the recording functionality is much more advanced, so I guess I'll be bouncing back and forth..:-) I was just hoping.....
