Hi, on the consol view, I have red line coming on the MIDI tracks even if I put the fader down the the red light come on and off witch mean it would be a peak if it was audio... Is this normal or do I miss something some where?

Its sort of normal. On a MIDI track it indicates the velocity of the note and has a range from 0 to 127. If its all red, then you may be playing too hard or you need to set the velocity curve of your keyboard so that there is more of a dynamic range.

Oh! Thanks Dave! It's not when I play hard or soft, it's every time I hit a note and it's not all the way from the bottom to the end. It's only the last light up of the fader...In other words, a tiny red line on the top. But, if it is normal, I wont bother any more...

That's the rather alarming looking MIDI indicator in X1. It just means MIDI data is coming in. In previous versions of Sonar, the bar was blue - not so scary. But the red doesn't mean you're playing too hard - as you've observed, it just means you're playing. RB

I brought this up early on in X1 - It shows that way in inspector too. Possibly the worst UI design decision ever. I have to hide all of my MIDI channels to avoid them constantly drawing my eyes to that part of the screen and thinking "DAMN DAMN I'm clipping...oh...wait...it is a perfectly normal MIDI channel working...the way it should. Arrgggggh! We still have 10 shades of dull grey for nearly every other indicator and screen but, for some reason, something working perfectly normal like "receiving MIDI input" gets the same screaming panic color, appearance and location as a clipping audio meter or an engine failure light.

Thanks for the replys guys! Now, I know at least it is not a problem coming from a bad configuration or something else. I feel better. I hope they will give us the opportinuty of changing the red line...oh...maybe there is a way to make it...I'll take a look on that and if i find something, I'll come back! Thanks again!

I thought this was changed way back in X1a or b. My MIDI activity indicators are light gray/white all around, and have been for a while, I thought. Or is this just an Expanded fix?

No, no, no Muzock, you really are just playing too hard. Please remove your wrist weights between your aerobic workouts and your studio sessions.

OK I got it losguy. I should have known (like the Beatle's song) that because I'm a drummer, my way to play on a plastic keaboard is too harsh...Ok...now, I understand ...

☄ Helpful
Hi Muzock, There are two meter options, segmented and non-segmented. The MIDI meters have a red indicator when in segmented mode, the default mode for Sonar X1. You can change this by going to Preferences. Hit the Advanced button and choose Customization - Audio Meter. Un-check Track View and/or Console View under the Segmented Meter section. I'll put in a request to have the MIDI meters to at least behave the same between the meter view modes. It would be nice to also be able to configure that color. Hope this helps. Dan

I'm thinking this is probably due to the fact that the color scheme I imported from 8.5 included changes to meter colors. It must have over-ridden the X1 color for the activity indicators as well as the main meters. Correction: It's because I'm not using segmented meters. The option in Preferences says "Audio Meters", but it affects MIDI meters, too. Turn that off, and your MIDI activity indicators will no longer be red. Edit: Doh! I see Dan already clarified this. I swear I discovered it on my own before I saw his post.

Muzock: You're not using a midi drum pad input are you? I have an Akai midi drum pad controller. There is a switch on it that makes every hit a 127. (Which is, of course, how a true drummer would use it.) But it would give you a red signal every time you touch one of the pads.

Wow!!! To much fun here with all those jokes about the drummers. Keep on guys, I love that. Usualy in the afternoon, I practice my drums (to play louder and louder)...and during the night, I mix my recordings and put some more noise on top of that with my sequencer (X1). Now that I know how to fix those red lights, I think I'M gonna let them that way to have the feeling that I play loud on a synth too...should I laught... Yes, I have a pad Zenwit, but just a complementary of my accoustic kit. The SPD20. OK! My break is over and I go back to the noise...see you later...if you can still wanna hear from me unfortunatly...

How DARE you sir! DAW 2.0 was extremely well thought out and I will not stand for these "Blasphemous Rumours"! (actually, once again, you and I agree). X1 can sit on my cold storage hard drive uninstalled forever as far as I am concerned. The brush strokes of revision were way too wild, and the corrections to date have been much to mild. D.
