Freeze - Save frozen audio files to different folder?
Is there a way to get Sonar to store the audio files from frozen synth tracks to somewhere *other* than the project folder?
I don't want to back those audio files up (since they are temporary and derived), and would love to delete them once I'm done exporting the song. Since I spend multiple days on a song, and backup my projects every day, I'd prefer the freeze tracks to be *outside* the project directory.

The only reason I would freeze a soft synth is if I am getting pops and clicks due to high CPU usage. I would probably delete the freeze audio before mixdown.

I don't think Sonar would move those files for you, nor do I think it would appreciate having them moved for it. I have a similar issue. What I've done as a workaround is in my backup software, set an exclude filter for WAV files of over a certain size, because the freezes tend to be pretty big compared to my normal bounces. It's not foolproof, and other than just taking the hit and backing up the temp freezes, I can't think of another way around it. It might be a good idea to submit this as a feature request. Being able to create temp directories for freezes sounds like a good idea to me.

I submitted it as a feature request. I haven't used freeze yet (because of the backup issue) so I have a question: How long does it usually take to freeze a 5 minute long soft synth track?

Since I spend multiple days on a song, and backup my projects every day, I'd prefer the freeze tracks to be *outside* the project directory. Unless I'm completely misunderstanding your question, the answer is simple, straight forward and doesn't need a feature request. From your project, do a "Save As" - make sure you've got "Copy Audio With Project" ticked. Now, select a location away from you project folder and save it down there. You can now at this stage, if you want, go back and delete all the old audio files in the original project folder. Does this help? Also, you said I would probably delete the freeze audio before mixdown If you've already frozen the synth, there's absolutely no need (or benefit) in deleting the synth afterwards since freezing it releases it from RAM and also disconnects it. The beauty of this system of course is that if you want to tweak any of your Midi sequences at a later date, all you have to do is 1, unfreeze the synth. 2, make your edits. 3, refreeze the synth. This method will also leave all your Fx, Sends & automation intact.

My goal is to never have frozen synths' audio files backed up with the project. For me, freezing is a temporary workaround when soft synths use lots of CPU (and create pops and clicks). So to have the frozen synths' audio files automatically stored *outside* of the directories I backup would be ideal.
