the only "real" benefit is being able to use more than 3.25G of RAM, but that's a huge benefit. sonar and plugins (if they're written to be able to) can use more memory. if you use sample libraries that's usually a big benefit as they can use more memory for streaming.

And it will run smoother with big projects (less usage of the swap file).

My system has never ran smoother since I switched to 64-bit. And my system doesn't even flinch at what I throw at it!

Since I went 64 bit I've cut my smoking down to zero, improved my driving, lived longer and prospered greatly, gone further, faster, longer and deeper, won multiple contests related to the size of my ego and my sexual prowess is legendary amongst more hamsters than I care to mention. YMMV

I've found that the 64-bit plugins run far better and crash far less often than bridged 32-bit plugins. As Beagle said, the more RAM you have the better, as a 64-bit machine can access it all. It's also the luck of the draw on whether SONAR will crash running 64-bit Windows. It happens.

offnote do a search here - number of topic about this, why to repeat all the time same thing... The search machine is a joke. I've never found anything with it, not even my own posts! I've heard that sometimes it randomly works :0/ (Unless it's been fixed lately)

what exaclty is it , and will i benefit from using 64 bit with Sonar Producer? As has been mentioned, the main advantage of running a fully 64Bit DAW is being able to access more than 4GB of RAM. You may also see a slight performance increase (if running 64Bit plugins). You can always run the 32Bit version of Sonar under Win7x64, so there's no compelling reason to avoid going x64. More than likely, you'll do just fine running Sonar x64 (64Bit version) with a mix of 32Bit and 64Bit plugins. 32Bit plugins have to be 'bridged' to operate in a 64Bit DAW. Most 32Bit plugins work fine with BitBridge. You also have the option of using jBridge (3rd party bridging app). Many plugins are available in native 64Bit dlls. This is usually the best option (unless there's a bug with a particular 64Bit plugin). The move to x64 is a whole lot smoother today than it was 2 years ago.

The move to x64 is a whole lot smoother today than it was 2 years ago. And smoothering all the time... Bridging technology is merely an interim and is fast becoming much less of a requirement. (C'mon UAD, Waves and a few others) I'm liking 64bit land and I'm a notorious luddite. Go for it.
