newbie -basics-repeating a process command?

Maybe I'm not doing this right so alternatives are appreciated. I have a rhythm guitar track where several chords are too loud. I am fixing the offending waves by highlighting the portion on the top bar, then going to Process, Apply Effect, Gain, 3DB cut. 1. Is this the way to do this sort of thing? 2. is there a key shortcut to repeat the whole process?

Try envelopes - volume.  Insert the envelope and adjust the volume that way.  You'll get smoother adjustments.  And you can watch the faders in the mixer follow them too!

That way you leave your original recording untouched.  The gain processing is a bigger pain, and mucks w/ your original file.  You'll also find the envelopes let you be a general as you want or get anal.

    Have fun.
