Export Audio not working properly

Whenever I go to "export audio" on a simple guitar/vocal 2 track recording (no effects) the file that is rendered is simply a "file" that is not recognized or able to be opened by any program on my PC. I have done this a hundred times before with no problem; this is the first issue like ths I've had. Doesn't matter if I try to export at 48/24, 44/16, mono or stereo, result is always the same - I get a file that is just a "file", not a wav file. Tried exporting different projects that have previously been exported with no problem and same issue. Anyone else ever had this issue before and if so, how did you solve it. Running X1 B build 242 64 bit.

Thanks

Rusty

So odd! This may seem like a goofy experiment, but try renaming one of those files with the .wav file extension. Once in awhile, doing that actually works! RB

That worked! Any idea why I would need to type in the .wav though - I've never had to do that before???

Ha! That's so great it worked rglessner! Had a feeling it might. - I have no idea why those exports aren't being labeled correctly for you-- but I've had files come up randomly odd with other programs, and the manual naming of file extension method has saved me a number of times. So--shrug---computers, go figure. Glad things worked out--Of course, I know you'd like to know what's going on that you're getting that error-but at least you have your audio. RB

What file format had you chosen for export - riff, broadcast...?
Did you test with different format settings - was the result always the same?

I have tried saving as a regular .wav, as broadcast, and the Microsoft wav option. In every case I must manually put in the .wav for the file to be rendered properly. Before last night I never had to do that, and this is occuring not only on the lastest song I was working on, but on older songs that had been previously exported without incident.
