Sidechaining in X1

Been recently experimenting w/ sidechain compression.  I'm kind of new to it so I might be missing something, but from what I see the only option is to send the output of the track that I want to trigger everything (a kick for instance) to the compressor.  This means if I want multiple elements to be sidechained (such as a bass and a synth) and have them all respond to the same kick I have to create a duplicate of the kick track to route to each compressor on each track I want sidechained.   I don't think there is a way to route one track to multiple compressors.

But if I'm not mistaken I've seen some vids where it appears that you can select the input, or what you want to trigger the compressor, from w/in each compressor you're using which would make things easier and get around having to duplicate tracks (I think)

I'm wondering is this the way it works in all DAWs or is this just the way it works in Sonar.

Or is the ability to select inputs from w/in the compressor a plugin specific feature depending on whoever makes that particular plugin?

Or, since I'm new to this technique, am I completely going about it the wrong way and if so, what's the best method?

it completely depends on the way the DAW AND the way that the VST implements sidechaining as to how it done.

if you are curious, there are other youtube videos on sidechaining using other DAWs, just google it.

if i understand you right there is no need to duplicate the kick. just create multiple sends from the kick track to all sidechain inputs you want to control. you can also send multiple sources to the same sidechain input and they will be submixed automatically. its pretty flexible.

Thanks for the feedback. I was overlooking the option to use the sends to route the signal to the compressor. Like I said, I'm a noob to the whole sidechain thing and was a bit confused on how it works. But those little vids got me on the right path and pretty much cleared everything up for me. Thanks. Really appreciate it.
