Help breaking up a large project

I have a live multi track I'm saving into smaller one song projects. Normally I've done this in studio sessions where there would be series of song/track clips with start and stop points. 'Save as to a new song project, delete the unwanted clips, save and Consolidate.
The difference here is I'm getting eight gigs of back up files for 3 min 15 track song.
Tried select all' ahead of the song, and after, 'Cut and delete hole moved the song to zero on the time line. Hitting 'go to end' says the end of the project is at the end of the song clips, and got rid of the automation.
What am I missing to get them down to three minute files?

Split your audio tracks where you want the song to end

Right-click each track and select "Apply trimming"

Do a "Save As" and save the file in a totally different location.

Make sure you've got "Copy Audio With Project" ticked.

Thank you I'll try that. I thought about the trimming function along with the cuts but hadden't got to trying that. (I had presumed 'trimmin was just for slip edits..
I do my own song/project data folder house keeping rather than Cake's per project auto function so 'copy audio with project isn't there.  -should still be able to use 'consolidate right?

I think that as long as you do a "save as" and direct Sonar to the folder you have pre created ( that's what I do too) and select "copy all audio with project" that just the audio left in the project will be saved in a new audio folder in that songs folder.

My "copy all audio with project" is greyed out. I presumed that was because I haven't selected 'use per project folders (rolling my own) thus I use consolidate'.
    We'll see tonight perhaps

Your workflow will be greatly improved & enhanced by using Per Project folders.

Though that doesn't explain why "Copy Audio With Project" is greyed out.

But you've got nothing to lose by trying it.

If you do revert to Per Project folders and it's still greyed out, please let us know, as this could indicate something else that needs to be looked at on your system.

The save audio with 'save as is a function of the per project' option. But it doesn't seem to be related to trimming, which I'm still not finding how to apply to these edited and deleted sections (presuming here that is still the reason for the very large files remaining.
I tried 'splitting across all tracks (rather than 'high light and cut', or delete'), while they were still selected hit 'apply trimming then delete- with per project' and save as' with audio.. Still got 8 gigs of data.
Shurely this is just piolt error, but then the only 'apply trimming refs I've seen refer to slip edits(?)
