How to hear and play MIDI drum loops/patterns in X1

Hello,
I am using X1 Producer and have some MIDI drum loops or patterns that I would like to use in a project.  I am not sure how to go about using them.  I 'm thinking that I must play them through one of Cakewalks soft synth programs, but am not sure.  In the old days I believe I played them through Edirol VSC if I remember correctly.
Thanks for any help with this.

Probably the main forum for Sonar is a good place to ask this, but you've pretty much answered your own question.

You insert a soft synth (even 3rd party one) into Sonar and then drag the MIDI loop to it's MIDI track.

IF there are no special "prerequisites" to the MIDI file (ie., does it need to be on a "specific" channel?) then it should work.  Otherwise, it may need some setup like selecting a MIDI channel.

But in general that's the basics -- a MIDI track sends its data to a Synth Audio track.   Best way to accomplish that is to use the "Insert Soft Synth" command OR simply drag a soft synth from X1's browser into a project and let Sonar setup the Audio and MIDI track(s) for you.
