my dumb question for the day...

Does anyone recall the easiest way to fast forward to the end point on a loop selection on the top timeline?

I often use the looping functions to limit the movement of my playback while I am working on a section of a song using Track view.

I may not be looping or recording or loop... but rather I am simply using the looping playback to control the range so that I may zoom in and edit in detail without having to worry about losing my place on the timeline and spending extra time to go back to where I want to work... I can review some edits with a listen and then I can simply play through the loop back to my area of interest.

It's easy to rewind to the start of the loop.

I forget; what is the easiest way to shuttle to the end of the loop and stop at that edge? Sometimes I want to check that edge specifically and it may not be at a snap point.

Does anyone know off of the top of their head?

Thank you in advance.

best regards,
mike

I was going to post that this is real easy 'cos I do it all the time, which I do, but I'm using a control surface which in loop mode is just a case of pressing the fast forward button.

However there doesn't seem to be a easy shortcut to do that from a qwerty which seems bizarre to say the least.

I suppose a workround would be to have the loop module showing double click and ctrl-c the end time, press 'G' and paste it into the got to time once that's done, it would be a matter of 'G' and enter until you move the loop of course. Was it possible previously?

Of course if you have an MCU use loop mode and the ff key.

In the actual GUI pressing FF or ->I key takes me all the way to the end of my content rather than the end of my loop. Rewind I<- always goes to the start of the loop and then on a subsequent click to the start of the project. The ->I button flies by any loop marker and heads straight to the tail of the project.

It is something that I've always sort of just worked around by using the nearest snap setting.  Sometimes I set up a temporary Marker.

I figured maybe I should finally ask. :-)

    Thanks for the info.

Yeah. I was sort of assuming that the ff key would act a bit like the rew key or there'd be a modifier, or even a keybinding that would do it, but that doesn't seem to be the case.

Baffling really because most of the MCU commands seem to tie in with keybindings or menu commands and it can def be done from that, which of course isn't any use for those without one.

Bummer... it has been a nagbap for many many years... but I've been lazy about trying to solve the question.

I was sincerely hoping to find out I just missed or forgot something simple.

    Thank you.

Maybe someone else will know it seems a bit strange that it can't be done but I can't seem to find a way.

I had a look around. I'm not seeing a way, either. Like Rewind, Ctrl-Home goes to the beginning of the loop the first time you hit it, but Ctrl-End skips the end of the loop and goes all the way to the end of the project.

The only workaround that comes to mind set a Marker when you define the loop range. I do a lot of my "gross" navigation using Ctrl-PageUp/PageDown. If you're loop points are at measure boundaries, that'll get you there pretty quick.

A feature request to make Ctrl-End stop at the end of the loop might be in order. And once that's in the system, you could probably give it a different keybinding.

    Hi there,

I use my control surface for this purpose too, but you made go and have a fiddle 'round :-)

On my control surface, it has a "Loop Mode" button, which must be enabled for the FF to jump to the loop end.
I don't know exactly what it does ... it just works so I've never taken any notice really.

Anyway, typically when I set a loop region, that area is selected in the time line.
Well, I usually select the area I want to loop then hit the "Set Loop Points to Selection", so it would be selected :-)

So assuming the loop area is selected in the timeline, all you need is a keybinding for "Go to Thru Time", that seems to do the trick.

The X1 reference manual lists <CTRL>+G, but my keybinding was different, maybe brought over from 8.5.

I set up the keybinding and it seem to work here.

Let us know if that works for you.

    Cheers - Cliff

I thought about that, but if your're working on the looped region, it's likely your selection will change at some point.

Ok, I see what you mean.

If your loop coincides with an active selection than you can use Go > Thru as a command to get to the end of the selection.

It only goes to the end of the loop if your current active selection coincides with the loop.

I do indeed often times use set loop to selection. But, I can't actually work with that selection while it is blacking out the very clip I want to work on. Of course, the act of editing in detail causes me to constantly amend my selection area.

I like to use the looping features as a method of constraining the movement along the timeline so that I may concentrate on some detail and listen to playback quickly.

Thank you for pointing out the selection of Key Bindings.

I am afraid that it doesn't really help... because if I can take the time to place the selection again after an edit then I imagine I can just place my cursor where I hope it to be.

    Thanks again.

    best regards,
    mike

I simply leave markers at each end of the loop so I can get to it's end by going to next marker...

    Would that help?

Yes, and I use markers to chart out the song structure etc.

Like I say, I mainly just set up a quick loop as I am zooming in to work on something.

If I could just hot key I'd love it... if it's not that easy I'll just keeping on with what I'm doing.

    Thank you.

    all the best,
    mike
