Firewire Rollback

Can anyone confirm for me if the Firewire rollback is still required under Windows 7?

For clarification, I have (1) MOTU 896 AND (1) MOTU 896HD running under Windows XP.  My didicated DAW machine is a custom Studiocat that was originally setup (Firewire Rollback) by Jim to allow me to daisy chain my MOTU units allowing 16 analog channels at up to 96KHz.

My question, is this rollback still required under W7?  I have a fairly new lappy (i5 used as my mobile rig) running under W7 64 bit.  From time to time my 896 units go out of sync.  Similar to the old Win XP issues before the rollback.

Is this still required?  Any insight is greatly appreciated.

To my knowledge only RME interfaces use the current Win 7 fw drivers.
    See my tutorial here http://deeringamps.com/fw1884/sonarx1b_fw1884.htm
for complete instructions to set the firewire port to run in "Legacy" mode.

    Good luck

    Tom,
Thanks so much for that info.  I will give that a try and see if my issues go away.  Nice work on the tutorial.

    Tom,
The driver rolled back within Windows without issue.  Unfortunately, my Computer/Soundcard didn't like it.  Sonar would not see my MOTU unit however Windows showed it in the device manager.  I tried a reboot to seal the deal and the lappy hung up.  Totally weirded-out.  I could not get it to work properly.  Reluctantly, I went back to the original driver.  I'm hoping to get some time this evening to revist what may be causing my problem.  It could very well be my spyware.  I just realized I did not turn it off.  THis lappy serves multiple purposes. So spyware is necessary on this machine.

    I'll keep you posted.

What "rollback" did Jim do for XP.
I know XP Service Pack 2 hosed the firewire and there was/is a hot patch (whatever MS calls it) that fixed that.
Is there something special Jim did for the Motu in XP?
Have you asked Jim for advice for Win 7x64?

    Tom,
I don't know specifically what Jim did.  I had done it myself from a link someone here posted from the RME website.  I can't remember the exact steps but there were several and it worked fine.  It had something to do with locationg the legacy 1394 driver in the "*.cab" data base somewhere within windows.  I may have mispoken so don't hold me to it.

As far as asking Jim, no I have not.  I figured I'd try this first.  I guess this will be my next course of action.

    Regards.
