Kashmir - Led Zepplin cover - Remix
I was fortunate to have my friend Jim sing the vox for this. I did it for another forum as a challenge to see who could create the best Zepplin cover. I may have taken it had Jim sang it originally. I think I'm done with the mix but would like some feedback. I disabled it, mixed it then put it back in. It should be ok now.

Nice job.
The kick could use some more beater, as I felt it more than heard it at points. And the snare is a bit wimpy...I would use a different sample, maybe of a something like a Pearl or Ludwig 6.5".
The bass could have more presence.
I can tell you are a guitar player! Guitar is just a db too loud. You have a good singer, why not let him have more of the song?
And where is the orchestra?
The song of course is sper dynamic, though the mix is pretty much a set volume to my ears without a lot of variation.

It could use a few more things production and mix wise, but the present performances are nothing short of perfection.

Echo the need for a better mix. I may add that that the mix needs some reverb to add some space. It is a bit too much forward. Otherwise it is well performed.

Wow... what an endeavor to undertake. For a cover, this is mighty fine. Zep is a heard act to cover, but I think you did a good job, and what did you do.... decide to pick the longest song they ever did?
Really like it. As it got close to the end it filled out nicely.... the beginning was a bit thread bare compared to Zep's.... but again..... excellent job.
Covers are hard because the original band usually sets the bar quite high.

Good job. Jim sounds a little like Joe Walsh to me in the intro part... From a production perspective I might suggest adding some more instrumentation in certain parts to add some more more dimension. The guitar carries most of it OK but there are a few parts some strings and horns would really spice it up. For example, at 1:20, a string back-up would really fatten up that little single line guitar riff.
And of course some horns at 1:48 behind the guitar riff would be pretty cool. Good job though, it stands on it's own as is.

I would tend to add more instrumentation too, but I agree, the performances are great!

Thanks for the input and kind words. I knew I should have started re-mixing from the ground up but I thought I could fix it. It originally had my voice on it and it was less than horrible, lol, which did not work for Jim's voice.
I wanted for this to be a heavy rocker so I'm not adding other instrumentation. I appreciate everyone's opinions and will work on the verb.
I should have a re-mix up in a few days.

New mix sounds real thin in the cans. Like there was a HPF around 100hz.
Snare is still way wimpy.
Like the delayed reverb on the guitars.

Really hard to do any vocals on a LZ tune but your friend pulled it off, most of the time. I certainly couldn't. I'd love to hear some of his other work. I agree that the bass seems a bit thin but overall there's a lot of good stuff going on. Tough tine to tackle!!! Kudos.

Hi GP. This tune is such a classic burned into a lot of heads from the rock powered up Morrocan influence to the instant phaser on the kit and you guys really pulled it off. While I respect you wanting make it a straight rocker and I think that's cool at the same time...man I would love to hear this full blown. It's such a good base already. Great job!

I've always loved this tune - it really be easy to screw up a cover of it - you certainly didn't do that GP - this is really nice. The instruments are good - the vocals are great - love the vocalist.

Really nice job on this great Zeppelin cover!
This has always been one of my favorite Zep tracks, and over the years in my cover bands, I played both guitar and keyboards, and sang it, so I can definitely appreciate the work that you put into it.

GREAT job on this cover. Jim's vox sounds great with the verb used. He also nailed that loooooooong note. Guitar tone and the bass really play well together in the mix.
Mix sounds real good on my end. Detail to the drums are what can makes this a great cover or just an OK cover. The kick and snare are very important in this song along with the verb/delay used on them.
GREAT cover and performance by you both. KUDOS!

I think you need alittle room in the bass for the kick to stand out more.
