Pentagon causing serious hang-ups.
I'm running X1c producer but whenever I use Pentagon, after a few minutes I get audio crackles then my system hangs up - badly. Have trouble getting out of the app - usually need to end process through task manager. I have tried re-installing it - no luck. Thanks

what soundcard and driver mode are you using? what are your latency buffers set to? which version of sonar? which operating system?

the last I remember the Yamaha Audiogram did not have ASIO drivers - in fact it didn't even have WDM drivers - it used the USB Audio Codec only. did they release ASIO drivers recently or are you maybe talking about ASIO4ALL? also, you didn't answer the question about the latency settings. (and I can probably help you but for future reference this is not the X1 forum, this is the 8.5 and legacy forum)

Beagle I contacted Roland (Australia) a few weeks back and spoke with their Techo on a general Latency issue - at the time I was using the USB audio codec - which if I recall correctly it defaulted to on installation. I was advised to use the ASIO driver so I simply selected it from the drop down in the preferences - it displays as "Yamaha USB ASIO USB Audio Codec" - What this means I'm not sure - I did upgrade the driver but that was well over a year ago. Anyway, with this selected, The buffer size setting is grayed out - the ASIO Panel reported latencies however is input 10.6msec and output 14.0msec. As a new user, I'm not yet familiar with the forum but the section I chose to post in was simply described as "SONAR Producer and Studio" - I will see if I can find the X1 forum for future ref. - Thanks BTW - How do I put my specs at the bottom of a post like so many do ???

ok, if you click on the ASIO PANEL button at the bottom of the window it will bring up the software running your ASIO drivers for the yamaha. somewhere in there you should be able to increase your hardware buffers. try that. and to put specs in your signature, go to the USER CONTROL PANEL and change your SIGNATURE

Sorry for not getting back promptly - I tried moving the slider up to medium but no luck. Still the same scenario - ie after trying a few different voice patches, it hangs up - everything - badly.

I saw a post on the X1 forum where someone said they had to run sonar in admin mode in order for pentagon to work correctly. try that.

Yes - I've come across that as well. I always start Sonar in Admin mode. I'll try the highest buffer setting next time just to make sure. Thing is - it's not so much a playing / recording issue - it hangs when I'm going thru its sound banks checking out the presets - after only 6 or 7 presets, it will hang. Gives me the impression it doesn't clear them from memory and blows its workspace causing everything to crash. Really appreciate your hanging in there with me on this but I think there's nowhere else to go but to support. With all the variables involved in computing I'm not expecting an easy answer.

are you using X1c 64bit or 32bit? if you're using 64bit, then try 32bit.

Yes X1c 64 bit. Do you mean re-install as 32 bit ??

yes, well, not RE-install, but just install the 32bit version of X1. you can have both on your machine at the same time and run both independently. try installing the 32bit version and then see if pentagon causes you problems there. that's not an ideal situation, but it's a work around. if that works, and I were you, I'd contact tech support about the issue and tell them the problems you're having with 64bit using pentagon and that it works in 32bit.

I have issues with the Pentagon as well in SONAR 64, both with 8.53 and X1c. It works fine for a bit then glitches big time, basically hangs and sends the audio meter on its track through the roof. It's never actually crashed the program, but it is annoying.

I would definitely encourage you to report this to tech support or the problem reporter.

Taking into account other Pentagon comments I've seen in the archives, I think it should be reported. I'll check out both options you mentioned. If I engage in any more discussion on this, I will do it in the X1 forum. Thanks again.
