What are the new features in Ozone 5?

What are the new features in Ozone 5?

I don't see any new features being listed for Ozone 5 but only feature differences between the regular version and the advanced version. This doesn't appeal to me because I don't know what they're trying to sell besides a new version number. Some other questions that came to mind are: Is the Advanced version a repackaged version of the previous Ozone 4? Is the regular version now a trimmed down version of Ozone 4? I think they need to add more information on their product page if they want to convince Ozone 4 users that 5 has features that they need and don't have.

    5 is better than 4 by 1.

    Seriously though, it seems that Advanced can now be broken into pieces (if I'm reading it correctly).

    So it feels like 5 is 4 with some subtle changes and Advanced is a new level of Ozone.

    Disclaimer: I have not tried the demo no watched any more than one vid on it.

    That page is saying what's new as well as comparing the two at the same time.

    Well, I don't have either version but it looks like Ozone 4 is still shipping... Does it make sense to order it then grab the Ozone 5 demo and apply the new serial number? I do have a copy of Groove 3's Ozone 4 Explained. I am just worried that the video is just geared towards that version. I wonder if I can apply the tutorials to the new version without getting 4. If 5 doesn't leave anything out from 4, it must be a better version correct?

    It will apply to 5 as well- the interface was slightly changed, and it looks cooler overall, but it is the same monster still ;)

    There is a new intelligent limiter algorithm. The left and right channels may now be unlinked - completely or partially - in the limiter. That pretty much sums up what's new.

    The UI is larger, cleaner and (IMO) friendlier. The reverb is better, but still nothing special. The harmonic exciter is the most-improved module, especially when used conservatively - although it sounds worse than Ozone 4's at extreme settings.


    All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.

    So bit, you think I should grab 4 since it's still shipping and get the FREE upgrade to Ozone 5? Or would you just bypass 4 and get 5? Is there anything in 4 that you like better than 5? I hear that it has a new interface and is the same monster but comparing it to Sonar, some folks still prefer 8.5 over X1. Is there any correlation? Or is 5 pretty solid.

    If you don't have Ozone now, I'd recommend getting version 5. It's a great product. And no, there's nothing you can do in Ozone 4 that you cannot do in 5 - OK, just one thing: you can't get the aggressive but pleasant-sounding dirt with the exciter in 5 that you can get with 4.  5's exciter sounds better when used conservatively, but worse when you push it.

    My own particular situation is that a) I use Ozone 4 now and am very comfortable with it, and b) I have very little budget for music software. For my situation there is no compelling reason to upgrade to Ozone 5. I'm still a fan of the product, though.


    All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.

    Click on "What's new" button in this page to see what's new in Ozone 5. There's 47 new features to Ozone 5 Basic and 73 new features in Ozone 5 Advanced. The biggest DSP features are: * Maximizer: new IRC III mode : Maximizer: stereo unlinking * Dither: improved MBIT+ noise shaping curves * EQ: analog-matched curves (no more warping near Fs/2) * EQ: mixed-phase mode (adjustable pre-/post-ringing) * Imager: automatic prevention of antiphase (and over-widening) * Dynamics: soft knee * Dynamics: upward compression and gating * Reverb: new algorithms * Exciter: new algorithms * Meters: BS.1770 loudness measurement standard * Meters: meter bridge.
