Help on Building a AV Workstation
I am pretty good when it comes to building computers and configuring them but I am pretty sucky when it comes to designing furniture to house it all in.
I am looking to do a DIY build of a audio/video workstation to where I can do all of my editing work and making some music as well (no rap or bass-heavy stuff, just instrumental) and I have an 8x8 spare bedroom to work with. I would like to do an 'L' based workstation to where I can do a dual-monitor setup, a place to set up small studio monitors and related equipment for doing vinyl transfers and needed decks for video work.
A friend gave me a full-sized door that they no longer needed and a pantry-sized door of the same height (6ft). The smaller door I can use for the top shelf so now the thing is, perhaps another door could be used for the corner side to have more of a work surface. Then I would have to figure on where to place a keyboard for playing music on (and perhaps a MIDI keyboard later on). I guess placement would be key somewhat here. I also have an audio mixer I could make use of as well.
Things I would need to figure out is what would I need to have/build for the table legs and possibly some file cabinets for storage of say wires, cables, and other random stuff.
I don't have the budget of Congress and alot of the sites that custom build AV stations are too expensive so I am going to do the DIY route. I have tools where I can cut and fit as needed among other things.
Currently I am looking at some of the older studio pic threads to try to generate some ideas and where i can go with this. If anyone has done a DIY project of your own workstation I would love to hear about it. It just sucks that I don't have any designing skills.
