pc4k compressor can't be adjusted while auditioning??

I must be doing something wrong. I just got the bits downloaded and installed. I added the pc4k s-type compressor to a track, solo'd the track hit play and started tiddling the pots. When I change the ratio the sounds starts to go crazy. I hit stop, I hit play and it's smooth... I twiddle it goes crazy... I hit stop, play... now smooth again.

I'm using Sonar x64 producer on Windows Laptop that has worked fine for most things that work in the past.

More info... it's crazy pumping and breathing, but not related to the effect. It looks like it's a feature in Produce Expanded x64. I switch to solo a track without anything in the Pro Channel enabled and I can trigger the nutty sound. Hit stop, hit play, badness is gone. Did I screw up the install?

Ok maybe I'm back to the effect. Maybe it is just crazy pumping and breathing. User error strikes again?

Sidechain switch is on in the down position. I think this might have caused the crazy sound. Circle = down and | = off?

Maybe based on bleading between mics I have to use the PC4K-S Bus Compressors rather than Channel Compressors to avoid the pumping and breathing? Not sure. I haven't been able to set the channel compressors on a single channel and have them be listenable.

Do you ever get the feeling your all alone?

Im sure its installed correclty. Its probalby just the way its set up. Pumping and breathing are effects that are caused by a compressor that is set to do so.
To make sure its working correctly, insert a compressor in the track's Fx bin and set it up with the same exact settings. If you hear the pumping and breathing, then you have your answer.

By the way, the problem came from my audio drivers. Using MME when mixing made it sound terrible. Plugging in my line6 or m-audio device fixed my problem. Sorry it took so long to post back. Thanks for trying to help.
