crackles and pops again
i though that i had solved the crackles and pops problems for good but it has returned. i'm making a MIDI accompaniment entering it note by note as i've always done. it crackles and pops on playback. i opened an older file that also has a MIDI line an it also crackles and pops even though i bounced the tracks to audio and muted the MIDI track. in both instances i'm using bells/carillon. (i don't know if its relevant.) when i adjust the buffer size bar, the music will not play back over 240.0 msec, but at this level and below it crackles and pops. in the past sliding the bar to the far right was enough to stop the crackles and pops. i re-downloaded the Alpha driver based on an idea i saw in another thread, but it didn't make any difference. the download was good 'cause the computer said so and re-started the computer. what do i do now? sirena del mar

to the Alpha, when the Alpha is connected. also inside sound and audio devices. i always check before i start to work that everything is set to the Alpha. generally once i plugged it all slots change to the Alpha automatically, except for the Driver Profile, which i set manually. it always stays in the Conexant card, i don't know why.

Check all your audio cable connetions for tightness. Make sure that no power cords are crossing (like monitor cord over computer cord, etc.). Make sure Microsoft system sounds is turned off, as well as any other program that might be running in the background, like virus scanners. I know you don't have internet at home, but you may have a virus program installed? Turn off any wireless devices that are connected to the computer, like wireless keyboards, mice, routers. Turn off all scheduled tasks, like automatic disk defragmenting and the afforementioned virus scans. Music Creator 3, that means you're using the Edirol VSC soft synth?

I'm wondering if her problem is not with the soundcard, but with something else. Antivirus, webcam, TV tuner, internet wireless? something like that.

With the latency slider (I assume that's what she meant by "buffer size bar") at 240 ms, she shouldn't have noises from the interface, that's for sure.

Greg, you might have to do a shadow with Teamviewer and check the setup for her. I have used that a few times now and it is a big problem solver. If you need help let me know.

She doesn't have internet at home. All her downloads are done at an internet cafe to a disk or thumb drive then loaded at home. And I don't know how to do that. And, where have you been?

Do you guys read it litterally:"Crackles and pops on playback"?? So nothing in monitoring during recording (does she do multitracking with monitoring?)? If nothing has been changed in the computers/SONARs settings, could it be something external? Has the household electrics been excluded yet? Air conditioning? Electric alarmclock with radio or a cellular phone next to the soundcard? Is there crackles when audio is listened through the integrated soundchip/WMP? Is it the same with headphones via Lexicon/Headphones via Conexant/through computer loudspeakers/external loudspeakers (looking for a physical cause)? I remember reading the earlier threads on this but I don't remember any details, and I don't have the energy to go search and study..
SONAR PE 8.5.3, Asus P5B, 2,4 Ghz Dual Core, 4 Gb RAM, GF 7300, EMU 1820, Bluetube Pre - Kontakt4, Ozone, Addictive Drums, PSP Mixpack2, Melda Creative Pack, Melodyne Plugin etc. The benefit of being a middle aged amateur is the low number of years of frustration ahead of you.

In the past, she wrote that she mouses in the notes and uses soft synths to hear the MIDI. MC 3 came with Edirol VSC, DreamStation DXi, Triangle II and Square 1, I believe. I think it's something external, too.

Greg Teamviewer is easy, you download the full version to your computer, then email the QS version to the user, or the link to download. They open it, and give you the ID and password, which you type in your TeamViewer screen, and you are linked to their screen, and you have mouse control. It is so easy to open up the audio and midi areas and do a quick setup. The times i have done this within minutes i have it playing back a demo song. Where have i been? Just busy these days, and i have less time to help folks, and what time i do have i spend recording, and learning for my needs. I don't use MC anymore so I am not as up on it. I bought Sonar essentials, and use it and PG music Real Band more these days.
