Great thread with some superb contributions!

On the subject of rolling off above 15K, what would you say is the best tool for doing this - a shelf or a LPF?

Hi Jonesey, (Happy Thanksgiving to you and everyone else)

I've had luck with both shelf and LPF. It depends on the sound of the high end that you want removed that will dictate which method to use. Most times you can get away with a LPF. The Sonitus eq works really well for this. Set it for like 16000 and set the Q to 2.4. Anything under 2.4 will start to remove the high end to where you can hear it. What's great is...each increment down on the Q is a subtle difference to where you should hear the harsh high end leaving the building a little at a time. Give it a try...hope this helps. :)

Thanks Danny - happy holidays to you as well. Unfortunately, living in the UK, nobody gives a rats 'arris about it over here, it's a normal working week for us.

Funny you said you use a slope of 2.4

I always use a slope of 2.4 for HPF duty on the low end for clearing out mud. I seem to remember reading somewhere that this equates to a 12db/octave roll-off and this definitely seems to work, for me, in taming the extreme low end.
