LOTS of them. depends on how much money you have! range anywhere from $20 to $4000 per package!
the best for the money, IMO, is Kontakt. it's not "cheap" but it sounds great and delivers great quality. Costs about $400 new without educational discount.
it depends on what sounds you're looking for as well. if you want orchestra sounds, consider GPO. ~$180, IIRC.
what kind of sounds are you looking for and what budget are you looking at?

Hello Beagle,
Thanks for the info.
For many years now I do my gigs whit a Roland modul SC 880 and the sound is OK.
I connect a USB to MIDI convertorbox to my laptop and send the MIDI output of the little USB to MIDI box
to the MIDI input of the SC880.
A few weeks ago the Roland SC880 had a defect and I had to end my gig whit the Microsoft GS build in
synth from the laptop. The quality was not good as you know but I could end my gig.
Because the SC880 is almost 15 (and more) years old and I have to look for another synth I was thinking
about installing a good softsynth on my laptop, instead of buying a new hardware module from Roland or
Korg. And as you know, these hardware synths are not cheap If we want good quality.
That's why I am looking for a good software synth.
My question is: are the new sotware synths as good as the hardware synths?
Can I install a software synt and tell MC 4 & 5 to send all rhe MIDI files output to the softsynt, whitout
having to open and edit all my MIDI files? As I would have to do if I would like to use the TTS-1 synth.
I"m 62 years old and the music I play the most is music from the Golden Sixties. Good Rock & Roll songs like CCR, Dire Strait, Tom Jones, Roy Orbison and other ballads. And many good old USA country songs, that we love so much here in Europe. But I play more recent songs also.
So I'm looking fot a general purpose softsynt with a good allround quality
The pricerange I was thinking about is from 200 - 300 Euro's.
Sorry for the long post and thanks again for your help.
Good luck, Salleke.
