Hi Gary - Sincere thanks. I know what you mean about the vocal and late at night as I write my music, Miriam seems real to me too. Weird! - definitely time for me to go see the shrink!

You know I always enjoy your music Malcomb!! I watched a few more of your vids the other day. If Miriam Marc was 64 bit, I'd get her for meself!!

Very well composed and played and when I watch the video along with it, it all flows together so nicely. Childlike sadness.

What are you using for flute samples if you don't mind me asking? I have GPO, but they don't sound as good as this...

Slow Marching Band

Win 7 x64, Sonar X1E x64, Studio One v2, Focusrite Saffire 24 DSP Pro, Genelec 8030a, True Systems P-Solo, Focusrite ISA One, FMR RNP, GAP-73.

Hi Larry - Sincere thanks and really pleased you like this. I do hope Miriam is not fickle - I need her! As for the Flute, yep, it's GPO (Kontakt Player 2) - Alto Flute PLR1. All I do is add a bit of Sonitus Reverb ('Short and Sweet' preset) and slightly adjust the velocities. I am sure the rest of the sound is down to the Marian Marc 4 Midi soundcard I use. Miriam and Marian - obviously I am surrounded by lovely Ladies - Bliss! And as you say, if only they were both 64 bit - what lovely music we could make (thoughts like that are really not wise for someone my age)!

Wow, that's the first time I've ever heard Vocaloid.  Quite impressive.

Certainly good enough to tell if a song is going to work or not.

This one truly does in a very folk type tradition, a really nice composition.

Ah, I see you are from the IoW, my partner hails from Portsmouth originally, and we're not so far away now up in E Sussex by the Sea.

Lovely tune thanks for sharing.

Hi Jonbouy - Sincere thanks and so pleased you like it. I lived in Portsmouth for twenty years before retiring to the Isle. Went back to Portsmouth once a year ago and could not wait to get back to the Isle - what a mess the city now is. East Sussex by the Sea is a lovely area to live - in many ways similar to the Isle - I just stepped into the garden and gave you a wave - hope you saw me!

Excellent song.  I'm blown away by the vocal vst.  I'd never have thought something like that was possible.

Hi, Malcolm,

This is an absolutely beautiful song!

Very well written and performed, with a wonderful melody and a crisp, clean mix.  The Vocaloid actually sounded very nice and for me, the flute was the icing on the cake!  The video was very pleasant to watch with the period pictures telling the story of your wonderful song.

Fantastic job, Malcolm!

Hi Mark - Sincere thanks - the wonders of 'modern' technology! Vocaloid has developed considerably since it was first introduced. The sad thing is that Miriam was Vocaloid version 1 and that all later enhancements (now up to Vocaloid version 3) target the Japanese / Asian market and have excluded Miriam from development. A real shame. But I love her as she is!

Hi Bob - sincere thanks - the odd thing is that I was not even going to post this song here as I really wasn't convinced it was good enough - a good thing Miriam told me to do it anyway (I never argue with a woman!). (Am I the only one who talks to my computer?! OK, time to make that appointment with the Shrink!)...........[PS - apologies to anyone who wonders why I make separate replies to each poster - not only do I believe it is polite, but also Firefox won't do paragraphs in this Forum! Weird! (I've told the Forum moderators who tell me it is a known problem!).]

different to your big-scale works, this is a lovely tune Malcolm. if it had been mine i might have added some percussion as it went along, just to add a little something... anyhow, i'm sure there will be plenty of peeps in your neck of the wood - dunno if http://www.bandmix.co.uk/isle-of-wight/ is any use?

Hi Mark - Sincere thanks. I take your point about the percussion and I did think about adding some. But being surrounded by people who spend their lives with Bodhrans and Bongos welded to their hips (!), I thought this time I would just leave it to them to play along - they seem to prefer that (the things I do for a quiet life!). Also very many thanks for the link - very useful - I wasn't aware of it and will definitely trawl through it for possible vocalists - lucky ladies!

This is really a beautiful tune and so well done.  I also can't believe that's a vocal VST.  But besides all that, great tune, message and lyrics.  Nicely done!
