have question about adjusting the volumes between the instruments and the vocals

My question is very simple I think. I am just importing audio iinstrumental files and then importing local files. I just want the instrumentals to be a soft background to the vocals. This is for a DVD I am making for a group of younger girls and the vocals are their parents messages to their children. It just sounds blah without some kind of music behind it. Any advice would be most appreciated!

that should be a very easy thing to do if the instrumental music is already recorded strereo wave files and the the testimonies from the parents are already recorded.  that's what I gathered from your post, if that's not what the case is then you'll need to correct me.

do you have MC?  which version?

all you'd have to do is import the backing track, then import the testimonies on another track.  you could cut them up and move them around to your liking if you wish.  very simple project.

yeah.... doesn't sound very complicated at all.....

get the files imported and set the levels of the music appropriately to the vocals.

If the music needs to come up or down, it is a very simple thing to turn on the automation and set up the volume envelopes so that happens automatically, exactly like you need.

Knowing the version of MC you are using would be helpful to us when dispensing advice on how to do things because not all versions of MC are exactly the same.

Right. There are volume controls for each track. Adjust the spoken parts so they are not clipping (the volume meter isn't going into the red too much) then bring the music volume up. Adjust with envelopes if desired.
