Giga Whigga what the frigga

Giga.....Anybody having any luck in configuring Giga Studio GSIF standard in 64 bit? I'm using Frontier Design Dakota interfaces.... I've read most of the threads regarding this...but thought that I would bring the subject up again....as most of the threads are pretty old. Pretty sad when a great concept like GSIF fails....Tascam was irresponsible to drop this, as many people spent thousands of dollars betting on the technology. GSIF was a bit slow as the midi connection was the weakest link...but the concept was and still is valid and Giga Sampler is a high level performer....and could have adapted to current technology..they probably ran out of money and support. If we had known that the company was going to take a dive...many of us would not have spent a large investment sum getting into it. Maybe Garritan will pick up the pieces.

[<font]One problem is that at this point both GIGA and Frontier Designs hardware is very out of date.  If you have to keep GIGA running (and many of us got caught in that debacle), it is probably best to keep a machine from that era running, rather than trying to adapt the older software/hardware to much newer tech.

VSL makes very high quality products that work well.

Honestly, my suggestion at this point would be to move on from GIGA.  Depending on the GIGA libraries you are trying to run, and if they are "must have" libraries, converting them to Kontakt 4 format might also be an option (some may convert well, others may not).

    TASCAM.

tascam's drop of gigastudio has turned me sour on tascam even more than I have been in the past.  I finally bought K4 about a year ago and ported my giga libraries over to K4 as best I could.  they didn't all convert and that pisses me off too (in fact I was trying to get one working last night and couldn't figure out what the problem was - I'll have to spend some more time on it).  GS was never stable for me anyway.  but it just gripes my butt that I had invested in GS and then tascam just decides to drop the line after releasing GS4 (which fortunately I didn't buy).

To my surprise, the Frontier Designs 64 bit beta Drivers are working fine in the 64 bit mode. I was a bit confused with regards to how to run Giga, but I now see that a 64 bit system can run it as a slave on a 32 bit system. Tascam still supports the activation. In the meantime, I've been looking at the Gigabit Lan interface connection offered by Vienna Pro. It is impressive. I'm not sure how old this concept is. The instruments from Vienna are new. Vienna requires a USB dongle for each computer, which I'm not to crazy about. Their architecture is closed to Vienna instruments, but you can run VST instrument from it. Not sure if any other companies are using the Gigbabit Lan system...it's only a matter of time. In the meantime, I'll slave Giga and run it for awhile. lc

A lot of us were and are still pissed off. It was irresponsible. At least Tascam still supports activations. Seems to me that the sampler field is wide open with the Gigabit Lan concept. Companies like Tascam should be chomping at the bit to develop this technology, as this the future wave.
