A-500S and DP-10: Sustain pedal in "switch" mode only?

Hi there,

recently bought the A-500S (Roland-branded) and the DP-10 (sustain pedal).
When I connect the DP-10 to the keyboard via the "hold" jack, set the DP-10 to "continuous" as instructed
by the manual, and use the pedal nothing happens -- no midi events are transmitted as can normally be seen on the led screen.

I thought half damper mode is no problem with this setup. Using the pedal as a simple switch (in switch control mode) works, and midi events are transmitted to the host computer.

Any hints?
Thanks for any help.

Could you tell us where the "switch" mode setting is located? A simple on/off midi message would be better than nothing at all, which is what I and some others are experiencing.

On the DP-10 unit. There's a function switch located on one side with labels "Continuous" and "Switch".

In the "continuous" position -- the half damper mode which would be nice to have -- the keyboard it is attached to doesn't seem to get any input when I operate the pedal.

I use Garageband on a Mac, but my guess is the problem is on the device's side since no midi events are sent in continuous mode (which would normally be the case, regardless of the software I'm using).

Well I have a DP10 with the switch and one older on without it. Neither do jack squat. Now, if you were to open the controller software what settings would one look for in the menus to activate the sustain pedal? Like what midi note number would "sustain" be? I'll keep after this but frankly this is just too difficult for my limited mind to grasp.

Sorry for the late reply -- In the meantime i checked back w/ my vendor.
He told me that the A-500S does not support half-pedaling.

I could semi-verify this by plugging the DP-10 into the expression pedal jack in continuous mode -- in this case I get signal readings on the device, but, as explained before, not when I plug it into the hold jack.

Bottom line: No support for half pedaling on the keyboard, hold on/off works. I think I can live with that until my playing gets better, in which case I'd probably upgrade to a more fully-featured keyboard ;-)

    Thanks for the help, anyway.
