Kirk Hunter CS2 sustain pedal help--sustain pedal not working

I decided to start a new thread for this issue because the GB thread is not the place.

I have Concert Strings 2 and Diamond Orchestra.  I just noticed that with any string instrument patch from either CS2 or Diamond that my sustain pedal does not work unless I load some other instrument into Kontakt 4.  For example, if I load KH's piano then the sustain works with the strings patch(es), but if I remove the piano, the sustain pedal does not work with just the strings loaded.  Another example, I can get the sustain pedal to work if I for example load in a Kontakt Vintage Organ patch, but if I mute that organ or remove it, the sustain pedal does not work with the strings patch/instrument.

I did go into the "Instrument setup" for the KH strings instrument and check to make sure that the cc64 pedal is assigned.  It is, but it does not work UNLESS some other kontakt instrument is loaded along with the KH Strings.

Can someone see if they can replicate this issue?  I have had a few quirky things happen with KH strings and Kontakt (some solo strings samples not loading unless I check "search filesystem") and want to see if others are having the same problems with Sustain pedals before I bother Kirk.

Thanks for helping

Sustain pedal works for me with Kontakt 4.2.4 (64-bit) using CS2 patch "b  1st Violins 16,8,4,1 Players All Articulations.nki".

Is your "Ped - Full Sus" / "Ped - LegOverlap" feature button set to "Ped - Full Sus"? If it is set to legato overlap, the effect of the sustain pedal is not as noticeable as with a full sustain.

    Regards,
    Don

@cecelius2 You can always send an email to Kirk with the issue if you can't figure out how to get things working. I also wanted to let you know that someone at KVR just started a thread with FAQs about Kirk Hunter Studios and peer2peer info sharing that I think could be of great help to all KHS users (including me): http://www.kvraudio.com/f../viewtopic.php?t=335238 It will eventually be moved into the soon to be established Kirk Hunter Studios support forum on KVR (I actually wrote the request to KVR on Kirk'e behalf the other day). Hopefully, KVR can make that happen this week. There's really a great community of very helpful people over at KVR. Sorry, if I sound like an ad for KVR, I love Cakewalk forums and am a regular here (and a Cakewalk customer since their very early days; I was a Dr T Atari user back in the 80s when I was a working musician!), but KVR just has a lot larger of a community and that's where the GB thread is located. - Peter

    Hi Cecelius2,
I also had some issues with samples not loading and found this bit of info on the KVR site. It seems that I should've downloaded Diamond into a new folder within my Kontakt4 sample library and then used the "extract here" function so that all samples will be seen. I'll try moving it there, reinstall, and see if that works. (But overall, these are some amazing sounds.....I'm very happy I was able to afford/get this.....and possibly get some more!!)

    Here are the actual directions:

"some people have been getting a error msg about missing samples. it turns out that during installation they used the extract to option of the unzip software instead of extract here

here are the installation instructions [with my addition]:

    Quote:
    1. Create a new folder where you want your new library to reside. Name this folder anything you wish.

    2. Download the files (including "bonus files" shown at the bottom of this page) into the new folder you created and then unzip them [using the "extract here" option].

if you use extract to instead of extract here, extra subfolders will be created leading to an error msg when you try to load an instrument"

Thanks Mesh, Edrummist and dwcaldwell.  I will try these and see if they work, and will check the kvraudio KHS thread.  I really do appreciate how helpful the advice is around here.

Edrummist:  I too have been around for a while.  My cake experience goes back all the way to 1993 with their Cakewalk Professional 3.0 which was just a midi sequencer.

Mesh:  I will try re-extracting them into the Kontakt folder.  I did this with CS2, but still have some problems with a few samples not being found.

dwcaldwell:  I will let you know if the pedals get working.

    Again, thanks for the suggestions.

I have been trying to load a screenshot, but it keeps failing to show up.  Is this a problem with Firefox perhaps.  Could be my Internet connection??
